was just on the winchester, browning and remington websites and didn't see anything in .257 roberts. does anyone know if there's a company that still carries this .cal new?

Remington will chamber the Roberts in 2009 in the limited edition of the CDL SF. 24" fluted stainless barrel, wood stock. I may have to be gettin' me one. I'm torn between that and the Savage Weather Warrior in .250-3000. And I don't want both.

The 2009 CDL SF Limited WILL BE a Roberts. One of the CDL SF regular chamberings, as of 2008, is the .257 Wby Mag. 2009 is the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Roberts by Remington. I can't find the online article now, but I've seen photos of the rifle; it has the tacky engraved floorplate. Definitely a Roberts.

The .250 Savage should never come close to stainless steel. Isn't that in the Bible somewhere?

I sold my 99 in .250; I made the deal and then didn't want to be a jerk and back out. I miss that rifle, and I absolutely love the cartridge. I would also be happy with a solid-frame 99, even more so if it's (gasp) a tang-safety model. I want one to hunt with. The only reason I sold mine was that I wanted a solid-frame, scope-mounted hunting rifle and wasn't willing to trust my takedown. I'm such a maroon. It was a dependable MOA shooter with 100-grain loads.
Agreed that's like a stainless, laminated stock lever gun as far as I'm concerned!!!

I am a big fan of pretty blued/walnut rifles, and in fact I've never owned a stainless rifle yet, but I like these cartridges because of their excellent characteristics in new rifles as well as their history. For me, they are not that much different from, say, the .243 and the .308 Winchester, but they do offer a couple things the others don't.
But a stainless .250 Savage does sound a bit freakish. Mind you, I bet Savage would have offered it in 1915 if they could have.

I have a penchant for those vintage chamberings, but like many expressed here, it is a bit of a sacrilege to chamber them in Stainless. I have a beautiful Remington Blue/Walnut 700 Classic chambered in 300 Savage [I know, I know, a lever action would be better], but I have no regrets. It is uncommonly accurate, and I will probably never get rid of it. I shot a couple of deer and a calf moose with it, all dead right there. I am seriously considering picking up one of those CDL's in 257 Bob. The CDL platform just "feels" good in my hands. Regards, Eagleye.
