Does anyone still use a Rem 1100 for field or comp shooting ?

I hunted with one back in the 70"s a few yrs back I picked up a diamond anniversary model 1980 gorgeous wood I use it quite often 2 3/4" fixed mod choke works well for everything from geese to Huns .

At least 2 see regular service on our fields, a third an 1100 competition shows on occasion. I know of 2 other competitive sporting clays shooters who still use an 1100 as well.

One of the guys we shoot with has used one for over 30 years and from what I understand switched over to the newer competition model he now shoots 5 or 6 years ago. Being from SK and a trapshooter yourself I am sure you’d know him but I don’t know if I should post his name? Apparently he was a doubles shooter of quite some renown at one time and shot them with his 1100 posting 100 straights with it plus 200 straight singles with it. To hear the stories from other shooters I think he’s been trapshooting in SK as long as SK has been a province! ;)
I shot one on the trap & skeet ranges and in the field when I first started clay target shooting. I had a tournament grade trap and skeet 410. The 410 saw very little use, the T grade saw lots but after a few seasons I switched as it was always breaking down. Contrary to the runors I hate them well I only started developing a bad taste for R guns when they introduced the 870 express. I will admit, the old 1100 had and still has lines pleasing to the eye and always felt good in hand and pointed very well. I just haven’t owned one now since I sold the 410 back around ‘95? I do have a 3200 though.....

See all kinds of them. Many areas of canada like here has a very high percentage of people retired so most still use their guns they purchased way back and they still go bang and others have bought the new sporting models especially in small gauges like 28
I especially use mine in the 410, 28 and 16ga since all I have had choke tubes fitted by Briley
I also have a 1985 upland special in 12ga with the straight stock and short barrel with choke tubes that I use and love. It was the first year remington supplied choke tubes in a factory gun. I know 1987 was the remchoke but special models like this got briley square threads installed in 85 and 86
They are impossible to find and replacement tubes now are a special order at $120 a piece US from Briley.
It is like this one

Cheers

I have an 1100 from the 80's that I use for trap every week and geese every fall. I've yet to have an issue with it and neither did the previous owner.

I do know that fellow an Amazing doubles shooter yup would run straights with his 1100's that would be nerve wracking very nice guy i stop in lloydminister and visit with him on ocation .

There is a video on you tube . 50 years of the Remington 1100 . It shows the development process of the 1100 very interesting and informative . Remington spent a lot of time and money on the gun .

I still have a 1969 vintage 12 gauge trap model with both skeet and mod barrel. My Dad bought it for me
when I was 14 and started shooting trap and skeet with him. It sat in the safe for many years, coming out again when both my boys started shooting. Now it comes out once or twice a year for a round of skeet or sporting clays. It will always be special to me.

I call the standard 12 a "light" 12 just to keep my buddy (who is a big Browning auto Five guy) on his toes. God forbid the big green comes up with a "Light 12" model 1100 it would end the reign of the Browning Auto Five Light Twelve.:p

Really no difference between a 1100 and a 11/87

New ones or second gen as some call them I would agree old/ vintage ones I don't

Old ones don't have a gas compensation system that allows everything from light 2-3/4" shells to heavy 3" loads to be fired from the same barrel vs different barrels.
Extractors are wider on 1187s and late model 1100s. The early model 1100s don't share the 1187 fore end and barrel retention system and the 1100 uses a carbon steel magazine tube, the 1187 has a stainless steel mag tube.

Cheers

Have a 72 remi 1100. Paid 250 for it from some used gun place. It came with a 3 inch full barrel that seen a lot of use. I ended up purchasing a target load barrel aND a 2 3/4 with screw in chokes that I hardly ever use. Put a new synthetic stock amd fore end and picked up a few spare parts. It has never let me down. Target loads I shoot either mirages or challengers. Goose loads I shoot remi hypersonic and it just loves them. Never misses a beat. Use graphite lube and always clean your port hole (s) after a damp outing. I'll never let mine go.
