Let's hear what your IPSC gun is and why. Is a glock with trigger kit magwells and the whole 9 yards good enough, last match all I seen was sti's tanfolio and expensive guns?

See I was new to the game and didn't know about the division requirements? So when I went to buy a gun I just purchased a glock 34 and it seems like everyone out has everything but a glock...

Also I hear from people " I wouldn't use a glock for standard division." I'm thinking why? You can modify your glock can't you? Why are these other guns so special?

You can modify the g34 for standard but youll always be scored minor....makes things somewhat more difficult

I'm sorry but why does it make it more difficult? Please understand I'm new to the ipsc...

Using a 9mm gun in standard means the you dont score as many points for off center hits on targets. Standard division is dominated by 40 caliber guns to take advantage of this scoring system.

Most.of.this will be explained in the black badge course and during matches.

It doesnt mean you cant use your g34 for ipsc, you will just be at a competitive disadvantage due to the scoring differences

Since Glock 34 is in standard division, a trigger job and mag well is definitely recommended. However, you will have a disadvantage since you can only make minor with 9mm. I know lots of people shoot IPSC in Production division with Glock 17 or Glock 22 with underloaded .40 ammo. Glock ain't rare in IPSC but it might be in Standard division.

My friend John Dzurka, uses a Glock in .40 S & W (to the ridicule of others................until they see him shoot it) he placed 7th a few years ago at the nationals. (6th in Canada, but one person ahead of him was not from Canada) so, just from that, I'd shoot one for sure,.......................if I ever got a visit from God and he gave me a truck load of TALENT to go along with the gun.

Ya the black badge course was all particle for me and a test as a class, so power factor was noted but forgotten:(! So now that I have my baby already it's time to get accurate and hit all A's! Thanks guys I did take some time and read a little of my red book!

In Standard Division a custom glock in .40 is one way to go. You're cost will probably end up being close to a STI anyways once your done with springs and triggers and magwells. They can be quite competitive.

In production division Glock 17 is quite popular and can be very competitive.

If you have your black badge and have a gun holster and mag pouches just get out and shoot. Look at other's guns and handle a few. Then you will se what you like.

If you have the gear you might as well shoot it.

both my limited guns are 17 &35 fully customized, weighted the triggers recently and the 17 is 2.1 lbs , 35 is 2.5,comparable to any SA's , while of course some SVI's gets into 1.5 lbs which you can't match on a glock pistol .

however, i don't practice at all and got 2nd and 4th places in some stages recently , still learning the ropes.

. with the right parts a glock is definitely on par with any 2011 or else in the standard class....even better, glocks never jams or break during a COF,which can't be said of expensive SVI's and other costy 2011's ; they may break, and for sure jams at some point . advantage glock.

the biggest challenge with glocks specially shooting major is getting the gun to shoot the flatter as possible which can be achieved but parts aren't cheap, and you must add and remove some weight where it count, and also gets the right parts who works best to extract the max of the gun .

You absolutely see guys who can run their glocks quickly, but they definitely aren't a firearm that was designed to excel at "shooting as fast and accurate as possible". Although, If the P in IPSC actually stood for practical, we would all be shooting them. Their simplicity really is a marvel.

But yeah, I'm shooting standard minor and it's a heartbreaker. When you NEED all alphas, your times definitely reflect it.
