Does bear meat stink?

I ate polar bear once. ONCE! It stunk up the whole house. That thing was not a garbage eater, but damn did it stick. I can't even imagine the thought of trying to eat bear meat again.

I've eaten fall bear twice. One was from way up north and the other from the outskirts of Bracebridge.

I was pretty meticulous at fat trimming and had no problems with either in the smell department.

I shot a nice 250 lb black in northern labrador one year, it was excellent, fat was white as snow.
I think bears that have access to dumps, farmers still born calves etc, can mess up a bear for eating.
The key, get out in the wilds for good eating bear. :D

I just made up a batch of bear burgers last night for dinner, they looked and smelled a lot nicer than the Costco beef slabs on the other side of the grill!!!

LMFAO! Finally true poetry! Love it!

I try for a fall bear away from salmon streams and garbage and the meat is choice. The best one was ''honey fed'' and any beekeeper is happy to tell you if he has a problem bear.
Bear meat is like any other game, make a clean kill, look after it properly and the meat will be excellent. We render down the fat for baking-it is a pure white hard lard, no smell,-excellent for pies, pastries and bread making.Matter of fact, the old timers used to get a bear for this very reason-bear fat for cooking.

Most of the bear I've cooked has had a fairly strong aroma. Trimming the fat is the best way to minimise that problem, and cooking it in the barbecue, is the best way to eliminate spousal issues.
Taste is great regardless, IF you get the fat off, don't let the meat sit in it's own fat, and pitch the drippings.
