Does custom painting a rifle drive down its resale value?

Just wondering, if I paint my rifle properly, with Krylon Camo ultraflat colours, and do a good job, does that drop the resale value of my rifle over a stock one, or will it stay the same as a stocker?

I would like to know, before I go all artsy on my rifle :D haha

Why are you worried about resale? Paint it the way you want and enjoy it.

It really depends on who the buyer might be. Some guys like to sit in their basements polishing their never-used rifles and admiring them. Some guys use their rifles and don't mind paint or dings or scratches as long as it's mechanically sound.

my gun has been beaten harder then a 4x divorced trailer park hooker.

But... all the cool mall ninja's have new rifles with not so much as a scope ring blemish...?

Actually, one of the coolest looking rifles (to my eye) that I ever saw was a picture of an early milled AK47 captured in Afghanistan. It had the swelled plywood AKM front wood which had been decorated added to it and a beat up improvised folding stock off a European AK of some sort. All the finish was worn nearly grey - but boy did it ever look the part and was very attractive to my eye. Brass tacks in the wood and all.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

I don't think the "mall ninja" comment is a fair one. Folks have different priorities and interests and I'll never criticize anyone's reasons for owning a firearm.

I just split people into two categories: shooters and collectors.

I would camo paint my deer rifle so that it matches my Blaze orange vest and hat.

LOL like this??
