Does IPSC Rifle training exist?

Hi There;

I currently shoot IPSC handgun and have my black badge, so I know that technically thats all I need to register and compete in three gun matches.

Having said this, I am fairly new to centerfire rifles and I was wondering if there is any sort of rifle training courses (tactical type or otherwise) that may be offered that would help get into the swing of shooting an IPSC three gun match?

There is no rifle training as part of an IPSC approved BB...but there are people in the area active in 3 gun.

I know that Tritium puts on the odd rifle training course...

Maybe send him a message and see if he has any plans for doing one this spring.

Yup, I took the course (it was a combined Rifle and Shotgun course) back in 96 or 97 when I was living in NB. The Black Badge pin is proudly displayed on my range bag.

I would be up for that... That sounds pretty much exactly like what I would be after... I know the IPSC rules and competition side farily well, as you said, its getting me more familiar and comfortable with using the Shotgun and Rifle in a more structured format than the usual plinking, etc...

What do we need to do to get this rolling?
 
Do we need courses for everything...:rolleyes:

Really, as long as you obey he four universal rules of gun safety it shouldn't matter what type of firearm you're weilding through a CoF.
 
667: I fully agree with you and Dinsdale in that it should not be mandatory at all (and it isn't, the IPSC BB covers us for 3 gun).

Even though I am comfortable shooting anything, I was strictly asking on a personal level so that my learning curve on the rifle and shotgun might be reduced a bit and my confidence level increased. My hope was to get some good tips/tricks and some structured experience from someone knowledgable on the subject. The other benefit is the cameraderie of any "training " with others; its a great way to make new friends and hear/see new things...

In my case I am lucky to have some really, really good instructors in the area, Tritium being one of them. If he even thinks about giving some sort of "course" on rifles/shotguns, then I am there... He makes things safe and very fun and gives out good practical information. Hell, I would almost take my BB course over again just to hear his anecdotes and stories!!

I agree that the course should not be madatory.

I've shot a few 3 gun matches in the US and Canada and I've found the RO's and staff to be very helpful and safety conscious. They were great explaining things to new and experienced shooters.

I've shot dozens of 3gun matches in the US over tha past few years.. 'Not IPSC per se, but yep.. I've never run into a club/range/org that wasn't on top of safety...
They have no such BS as "Holster qualification" or "Blk badges" and still noone manages to get hurt... Amazing eh... :D

Why at one match last year our RO DQ'd himself for a safety infraction he caught himself at :D
