Good day all!! Tell me if this make any sense or not!
Rifle: Ruger no1
Caliber: 9.3x62
Bullets: Swift Aframe 286gr
Case/brass: PPU(new)
Primer: Remington 9 1/2 M
Powder: IMR4166
COAL: 3.373
So I was thinking 4 loads of 3 rounds starting at 53gr and going up one grain per load so 53, 54, 55, 56....
I will find a chrono for the range session, and keep en eye for any pressure signs!
Does this make sense?
I found this recipe (see below)but I want to keep it on the conservative side...

“IMR 4166 Enduron powder
I shot my first loads with this powder today. My ladder tests were with my 9.3x62 Mauser To say I was pleasantly surprised would be an understatement. I really like this powder so far. My finding are that it meters about the same as Varget and has about the same load density. Burn rate and velocity performance is very similar to IMR 4064. It's so close in fact, that IMR 4064 load data could be used - with the usual cautions.

For the Mid Bores this powder may well be at least as good, or maybe better than the likes of RL 15 or Varget. Following are my chronographed results from 11 rounds from a 93.x62.

QuilkLoad shows these achieved velocities to be slightly faster (approx. 10%) than

those shown for identical charges of IMR 4064. Max pressure appears to be around

58,000 PSI. There were absolutely no signs of excess pressure from any of these

loads, determined by fired case measurements, If accuracy is as good as IMR claims this may be my go-to powder for my mid bores. There seems to be lots of it available and it's made in Canada. 9 I have a pound available if anyone wants to try it.

Case PPU Partizan Bullet . PRVI 285 gr.

Primer -CCI 200

Powder IMR 4166 Enduron

Barrel - 25"

COAL - 3.198

CHGE 52.0 Vel 2275

54.0 2336

54.5 2373

55.0 2399 55.7 2397

56.2 2440

56.7 2454

57.2 2465

58.0 2489 .. about 58,000 psi ?? Enough velocity for me but 2500 fps + would be easily attainable with this powder as I see it.

When applied by competent people with the right intent, common sense goes a long

way.”

As far as I know, shooting a ladder is supposed to give you some loads that group very close together, from there you pick a couple of loads with the bullets closest together on your target, and load them up.
To me loading 4 powder weights makes me think your ladder was unsuccessful? Don't make sense to me that you are trying to guess on the pressure? none of my manuals show any data close to 2500 fps, not sure why you think you need to go there...?

My #1 was difficult to get dialed in. It was 375 H&H AI. A ladder test would tell me very little because the rifle wasn’t a consistently precise enough shooter. Yes, I had 2 other 375s that I shot better groups with, so not just a me problem. I would try to make sure it’s a consistent shooter if you haven’t already.

I’m new to his game, and I don’t think I follow you here...
I thought loading four loads of 3 rounds each and going to the range was a ladder test? And from what I see on the target regarding grouping and what I observe on the chrono for velocity and the inspection of the fired cases for pressure sign was how you develop a load for a rifle? I don’t know where you get the 2500fps, since my max load is 56gr and that is just around 2400fps? I don’t plan on going above 2400fps ideally staying around 2350ish.
So please educate me cause I can use it!!

Mine shoot really well with factory ammo, I’ve tried two different brand and both are consistent!
