Hey Guys!

I just bought a new bag of Remington 45ACP brass most measured around 0.892"-0.8945" however my Hornady manual says that the case length is 0.898" in the little picture. Does this brass need to be resized first?

My Hornady manual says Case trim length is 0.893" yet my Lyman 49th says trim-to-length in 0.888"??

I wouldn't worry. The only time it might make the slightest difference is when you are taper crimping, but probably not much. I've never had a problem, I'm sure mine have at least that much variance. Case length in 45acp, isn't all that important, so long as you're within specs. OAL is much more important, keep that consistant, and you shouldn't have any problems.

No, it's already been sized at the factory, and if the case was already at maximum length at the time of manufacture, it would need to be trimmed right after the first use, not to mention the fact that you couldn't chamber a round in a gun with even a slightly short chamber.

Since .45 acp brass can be reused many, many, many times, as it's a low pressure case, you trim back to a usable length so you can get a reasonable number of uses before you have to trim again.

chillax, sometimes a caliper is just a source of stress.

I was just going to ask that next, My OAL for a 23ogr FMJRN in the hornady manual is 1.230". I'm floating around 1.228"-1.232".....is that okay?

Such slight variations, especially in low-pressure cartridges like .45ACP, are nothing to worry about. Depending on your mags though, if you go over they might stick inside your mags (too long).

People actually trim their handgun brass?
