Does rapid fire on a 94 hurt _your_ fingers?

So I am trying to shoot my new, still kinda factory-tight 1894C as fast as I can (I basically bought it for fun). The rifle stands up well but my hand doesn't. :( The joints on my fingers, where the pressure is when I work the lever, become sore in short order. Does this happen to you? I stand up well without getting sore with other rifles like the Enfield or shotguns. I am using a carbine version, so maybe the loop lever and length of pull is too short for me. If that's the case, do I lengthen the stock, get a new lever, or what?

Oh yeah, my baby finger doesn't like the lever too much either.

Have you tried "wrapping" the lever with Leather ?
Lots of CAS shooters have there levers wrapped this way
Of course you will "toughen up" your hand by shooting it more as well as the Rifle should smooth up more with use 8)

Not built for speed...yeah. But the pre-64 Winchester's I've seen advertised on this board are in .30.30. Not something you'd want to rapid-fire, for cost alone! And I handled a .44 94 Trapper in the store. Wasn't impressed by all the gunk bits that come out when you work the action, and it looks like it has an even longer pull than the Marlin.

But Marlin seems to be waging a war on my fingers. First, the lever hurts my fingers. Second, the stupid loading gate pinches my fingers and it is hard to load. Damn, I need an 1892.
