Does reloading equipment fall under US export regulations

Reloading equipment count as tools and can be exported without issue. A lot of US retailers refuse to ship to Canada so that is the main issue to overcome. Personally I order from www.titanreloading.com since I use mostly Lee reloading equipment (I'm a poor college student at the moment :( ). I have heard that www.fsreloading.com is cheaper and I may give them a go next time I order stuff.

Hate to say it but some stuff is so much cheaper in the USA and some kits are just harder to find here.

Anyone know if one can order online from down there?

I have ordered die sets and replacement parts from CH4D and Lyman in the past couple of months with no issues to speak of.Doesn't always come out necessarily cheaper but sometimes certain items are hard to get hold of up here.

You should not have any problem for equipment , only RCBS have a policies and dont want their stuff ship here , you have to find them from a canadian retailer .

check sinclair , titanreloading , midsouthshootersupply , factorysales .
Just watch for shipping rate .

The sponsor here usually have good price , you can try x-reload too ,for equipment and component , if Rene dont have it in stock , he can have it fast usually.

But yes sometimes it worth the wait , i save 150 on my redding competition die !!!

I just ordered and received a set of Lee dies for my 7.62x25 Tokarev from Titan at a really good price. It came across the border in short order and the postage fee was only $7.00. Got it in about 5 working days and I'm in the middle of the bush in N.W. Ontario.

Not sure where you got your info on RCBS but you should ask the people you deal with again. I buy all my rcbs gear state side a complete new set up last year over approx 1200.00 on three seperate orders plus a new charge master this year. Buy from mainly precision reloading or rob's shooting and also got the rcbs rebates.

Reloading gear is no problem but make sure they indicate it is manually operated since as I found out with a progressive loader fully automated can cause issues and cannot be imported.
They tied up one of my progressive's for 6 weeks thinking it was some factory automated unit.
The words Manually operated on the forms is the key.

When you ship anything from the US to Canada have them use regular US Postal Service. Do not use UPS or FedEx both of them will charge a brokerage fee plus the GST. So a 45.00 die set will cost 45.00 plus the brokerage fee of last time it was 25.00 (probably higher now) plus the GST on the 45.00 or 72.25 total.

Using USPS the post office will charge you 5 bucks (if they remember) for there brokerage fee and then the GST so 45.00 + 5 + GST = 52.25 Big difference.

Most of the time small packages come right thru the mail with no charges at all.

Canada post I think put their rates up this year since the last few I got were 8.50 not 5 any more. Also I am getting the two piece rcbs dies I think for 38.00?? but will have to double check. They also put them on sale usually once a year with 20% off.

I believe it's just RCBS themselves who don't bother to ship here (except for warranty parts/tools) Anyone who sells for them does it with few exceptions (Midwa USA)

Automated machines are regulated, the Giraud Case Annealer which you can set up and let run hands free is restricted and he wont ship it here. His case trimmer is not and he does ship them to Canada.

From what I have been told by US retailers is, the US government put the export licence fee so high, that the sellers can't afford to ship to us. It's so strange that our good neighbour treats us like terrorists ! Our Canadian Government allows us to import many items with no problem, but do warn you about the US export laws. I drive across and shop and then bring back my items. I claim everything and raise some eyebrows at times but have never been stopped from bringing the items home. I have bought powder, primers, brass, bullets, scopes, loading equipment all claimed for my own personal use. Canada is not the problem it's the US. Ever since 9 11 they are paranoid against the whole world it seems. It's not like we are trying to buy things we can't get here, we are just trying to get better prices, thats it. A word of warning to those who bring stuff back. I have been advised that the US sometimes have surprise inspections on the Canadian bound lineups while they are still on US soil. And if caught exporting all these forbidden items you will be in deep ####. Again, we must be a threat to their national security ??? For the Lee reloaders, FSreloading is by far the best prices available !

Thank you all!

Now that I have this information, I've also concluded that the kit I want to get is the RCBS Rock Chucker Supreme Deluxe kit and discovered that it only seems available at Cabelas.ca and Cabelas.com. Obviously it is cheaper at the latter :).

So I might not have much of a choice but to go with Cabelas.ca :-(

Of course the bill is large enough on this package that I might have to wait and save a bit before I purchase.

Good to know , my experience was with Sinclair , but they ship all the other manufacturer .

Thanks

No problem. The only complaint I had was the shipping was high since they also charged a handling fee. However when it was all said and done tazes paid etc and sitting in the house I still saved 20% on my best canadian price.;)
