Does SEI Gas Lock Front Sight fit M305?

I am looking to have Epps modify my newest M305 to a 18.5" "SOCOM'ish" configuration with the "Navy Front Sight" that used to be available from Rooster. Now that he has completely disappeared, SEI seems to be the only source for this kind of part.

Does anyone know if this part (#2012) would fit the standard Norinco barrel? If not, is there any other alternative out there to us poor Canadians?

Thanks!

The current SEI Gas lock sight will not fit the M305 factory barrel.

The Norc barrel is metric threads, and the SEI sight is SAE threaded.

There is talk of SEI doing a run of metric gas lock sights as there are still a lot of older Norc/Polys in the U.S, but this has been rumour for over a year now.Whether SEI finds time to do a metric run of these sights is the big question.

Rooster33 was the only one making the metric version of this sight.

Unless you can get ahold of him, or find a used metric sight, your are SOL.

I spoke with Ron Smith on Monday and he said a run of metric GLFS (hooded and dovetail) plus the DC Vortex will be made after SHOT.
I think he is going to make 50 of each and see how they sell.
I told him I wanted 5 DC Vortex and 5 GLFS D 22.

I don't know how or if any of these will make it north of the border - stay tuned...

I would think that with the number of Norc/Poly owners in the U.S. (plus here in Canada), there shouldn't be a problem selling the metric versions.;)

I have seen a WHOLE LOT of members here asking for them (and most have more then one Norc M14).

Just so everyone knows I recieved an email from SEI (also on MOnday) that the test batch of Gaslock sights would be for the 22 inch barrel and not for the 18" because "Norincos were never made with 18" barrels".

This seems to miss the point of a gaslock sight... the vast majority of people want one because they cut their barrels down. H2O Man or someone else might want to point this out to them.

I'm (so far) planning on keeping my barrel full length, and would be all over both these offerings if they're in any way possible up here.

I will be looking into the possibility of having the Navy front sights made. I have looked for a drawing with dimensions of them but no luck so far. If anyone has a drawing, I would trade it for one front sight when they are done. If not, I will have to reverse engineer them.

The post in the hooded gaslock can be adjusted for 22" or less.
The 22" GLFS-D can be used on a shorter barrel with the taller
NM front sight SAI puts on the Scout. It may not be exact, but
it should work.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll call them tomorrow and encourage them to make some 18" versions for the Norc's.

H2Oman, do you know if anyone has approached them about sending a run of these up here to Canada? I'm sure there are several distributors that wouldn't mind making the cash these would help bring in. With the number of Norc M14s floating around this country they would be a hit for sure.

I think that would happen if the first batch is snapped up real quick by 14 fans in the lower 48.

Can anyone say how many Norcs are in Canada? How many would be interested in these items from SEI?

Maybe some of the vendors could chime in and give us some guess-timate of how many are in Canada.

he's back online now, just super busy. PM me with your order and I'll see what I can do for you.
He's out of cheekpieces now. I was there last night and his last shipment to Brownells had just been boxed up. If you've ordered stuff and paid for it, but haven't received it, let me know all the details and I'll deal with him for you. As far as he knows he's totally up to date with paid orders.

I spoke to Ron Smith earlier today at the Shot Show. He will making the gas lock front sights in metric very soon. The dovetail one will be in the 18" height. I have ordered a quantity of each.

Please excuse the basic question, but what sight(s) fits into the dovetail besides Smith's two combat sights?

Thanks

For the record, you can crossthread a SEI onto a norc barrel quite easily. After torqueing once, the threads of the softer SEI sight match quite nicely to the harder barrel threads, they aren't far apart.

Can you elaborate on this? I'd do it in a hearbeat if I knew it wouldn't ruin the barrel. And you can take the gas lock off and screw it onto another Norinco M14 with no problems?
