Does the 7mm08 deserve its reputation as a "girl's" gun

I can't be the only one who has encountered this experience in the wild.
Was talking to a guy and said if I was to buy an off the shelf do it all rifle, it would likely be a lightweight 708 which was then countered with the gun is too underpowered for anything beyond deer and is a good round for women or kids. And a real man would have a 7 mag.

Like the 358 win is put down as a good woods cartridge I think the 708 is often termed a great cartridge for women or kids.

Not only was the 7-08 designed for and excels as a chambering for 14 year kids and women, it is a well matched cartridge for a disabled person or men over the age of 40 suffering from low testosterone.

My favourite rifle is a 257Roberts. Now THERE is a girl's gun!

The 7/08 is most appreciated buy those who know there are other chamberings out there than the 30/06.

Sold my last Roberts in a dumb moment.
That would be a great cartridge in a featherweight rifle instead of a 9 lb. howitzer..

My buddy, dropping a huge Roosevelt Elk with a 7-08

If, by girls gun, you mean, light recoil, accurate, deadly, kills very well....Then I guess it's a girls gun. :)

Exactly. Light recoil and good manners doesn't make it a rifle for women, kids or men of weak constitution. Just makes it a fine little rifle to hunt with.

I think the entire "girl gun" thing regarding the 7mm08 is complete horses**t.

Suspect the origin is way too much idiotic posturing these days from the ego's of many in the magnum crowd

Magnum's certainly have their place, but sure doesn't make one a man. Quite the opposite from what I'm seeing in the field.

Crap..... I just bought a Bob.... And I own a 7-08 and a .243...... Maybe I should be concerned?..... At least I don't own a 250 O'Neil...... If I did I would own an O'Neil and Bob...... Yikes!

First rifle i bought was a 7mm-08. I had almost no knowledge about it except being told it's a great deer caliber. Now that it's killed a dozen deer, a moose and a couple bears each with one bullet... i see it as a phenomenal all around cartridge. I myself will never have a need for a .308 win because i already have the superior evolutionary step in my collection.

What do you guys think about it as a first cf for a ten year old boy? Junior hunter status available to kids in BC...

It's perfect if he can shoot it....... My boy is slight of frame, and is 12 this month........ He does great with my .223, and my compact in .243....... But my 7-08 is a full size Ruger all weather and doesn't fit him......

Personally speaking, I would rather wait a year or two to ensure his first deer harvest is a positive experience..... I have lots of rabbits and upland around that he can hunt with a .410!or 20'gauge......
