Does the Chargemaster do this?

I recently bought a Lyman 1200DPS III, I know, I know the Chargemaster is supposed to be better although Obtunded and G37 might not agree at the moment.
Anyway, while waiting for the mandatory 30 minute warm up I left my reloading room. Being the energy conscious person I am I always turn off the lights. I also close the door, don't want people looking in although there isn't much chance of that. Just habit.
Well every time I opened the door the Lyman beeped and shut off. I finally figured out opening the door is causing a breeze and overloads the unit or something and off it goes. So I left the door open however whenever I turn on the lights (flourescent) that also turns off the unit off. Frustrating as hell. Now I could leave the lights on and the door open but now have discovered that if my wife in the next room (laundry room) turns on that light- it also turns the Lyman off. Does the Chargemaster do that as well? Anyone have this happen to them with their Chargemaster?

wow, thats odd, i'd be thinking its maybe something to do with the wiring more than environmental issues at first, but the door opening cycling the unit really throws me off...

Actually the manual warns about not putting the machine in a room subject to breezes. I assume the room is fairly airtight so it causes the breeze.

I googled reviews on it and apparently I am not the only person who has issues with flourescent lighting. I just assumed that it could cause fluctuations in the throw of charges- not actually shut it off. I will switch to an RCBS assuming it isn't an issue for the Chargemaster.

Sounds like something is wrong. If my chargemaster did this I'd be on the horn to RCBS right away. And 30 minute warmup? Do you do a bunch of stretching and situps before you reload or is this actually something the scale needs? Never heard of this...

The 30 minute warm up can be bypassed according to Lyman but at your peril. Also they recommend you leave it on for 24 hours the first time you use it to let it calibrate itself "completely". Honest, this is straight from the manual.

My Chargemaster sits about 2 ft from a flourescent light on my bench and it has no effect on it at all. I let it warm up for maybe 5 minutes while I get powder and primers out and get set up to load whatever is on the menu that night, then calibrate and start throwing charges.

Wow I noticed some new ads from Lyman bragging up their new unit, but sheesh I think I am glad I bought a Chargemaster instead! I let mine warm up for 5 minutes but it does not say anything about having to, just my OCD coming through.

I also have no fluorescent lights in the room and the Chargemaster is plugged into a uninterruptible power supply as well to level out the brownouts we get in my area sometimes.

That is what I wanted to hear. Almost all of my reloading gear is RCBS. Should have trusted my own instincts, I guess and just waited for the Chargemaster. Well back it goes.

*When they work* the CMC is a great system. I have experimented with the need to calibrate and when switched on, my powder pan weighs the same each time. Thrown charges are dead on by my beam scale.

No need to warm up the RCBS. While I am not happy with the apparent problems these are prone to, I have to say I have been most pleased with RCBS customer service.

Although i do not do it, the RCBS can be programmed to dispense much faster too.

That problem is easy to fix. Do you have access to deep water or tall grass?
That made me laugh.
That crossed my mind but since I haven't even used it yet- keeps turning itself off- I think I will just take it back and get the Chargemaster I should have gotten in the first place.
I went in my reloading room this morning to pack it back up and even though it was turned off it still beeped when I opened the door!! The powder dispenser that wouldn't die!!!

RCBS Chargemaster

These posts are timely!---minutes ago my friendly post lady delivered my THIRD in 3 years--the last (second) had not processed 200 rounds---these are made in China and--in my case anyway just quit, period !---of course the last was just out of warranty as I had not been loading for a while---so you can SEND to RCBS and for $45US get a new unit OR destroy and send pics to RCBS and $65US for a new unit---of course it costs more than the $20 difference so I took a sledge hammer to the unit--you will appreciate how HARD it is to destroy a unit listed at $519+in Cabela's CDN catologue !!!--on the positive side when it is working it is great !!---and RCBS is super to deal with--I only hope I don't need another as this is EXPENSIVE!!---now downstairs to set this one up----and yes I take excellent care of the unit--and NO I have not had problems with flourescent lighting, which I have,AS FAR AS I KNOW,because I have no idea what caused these units to quit. CHEERS ! Bent Barrel

Hahah... hey I love my Chargemaster 1500 :)

I picked it specifically because it was the fastest of the lot... my only beef was due to operator error (I left powder in it which ruined the plastic surface); still works though.
