I've been thinking of picking up a gen 4 glock 17 but I keep reading of people experiencing all sorts of problems with them. Seems people complain of them jamming with lower powered rounds, and getting allot of brass thrown on their arms and face. I'm hoping someone with first hand experience can tell me if these problems are solved or not. In the past I have had gen 2 and gen 3 glocks that where rock solid fantastic guns so I'm really hoping the gen 4 lives up to its predecessors. I've also been looking at the sig 226 and hk45. The sigs I have no experience with. I used to have a usp 45, I would imagine the hk45 is very similar but updated? what do you guys think would be the most problem free?

Just bought a 17 G4 and put a 150 rounds through it a few nights ago. No problems but this was no torture test either. I am confident that it will be a fine gun.

over 1000rds through mine and runs perfect :) The older ones had a main spring issue which Glock fixed, I guess they tried using a 40cal spring the the 9mm guns.

I would not even think of buying a Gen3 after owning a Gen4

the internet is full of miss information, but the glock problems are (were) real. At the beginning the gen 4 had problems with the recoil springs, the new ones were modified a couple times until they figured one that worked, that one is 0-4-2.
After that, people started complaining of BTF (brass to the face) and erratic ejection patterns (ejector 336), so glock replaced their ejectors with another one that I cannot remember the number but I think is 2286. I have seen many glocks, and they all have erratic ejections, some more than others, some, have a weak ejection, some eject to the left every once in a while and so on. So there are little problems with the glock that can be fixed by replacing a couple parts.

I bought a glock from someone here in very good condition and it ejects fine. I replaced all the springs and ejector and the ejection pattern did not change at all. Shooting 124, it ejects at 5 o'clock, 3 feet away, not bad.

One thing I noticed with the glock is that it is very sensitive to 'limp wristing', and found that the glock ejection pattern will change if my grip, arms, stance are not properly locked. This mostly happens is I am shooting from a bench.

I like the glock for what it is, I am lucky it fits me very well. It is far from perfect, the ejection button even on the gen 4 is a torture to use and the slide release it is not the best of the best. I love it's simplicity and that is can be taken apart with one single tool, parts are everywhere, so that is hard to beat. I shoot the Glock well too, but I shoot the hk a lot better, specially after I shot the Glock for a while.

I think you should give them a try! they are fun to shoot!
Good luck!

looks like it will be the gen 4 glock. The hk45 just looks weird to me coming from the usp45, and I've never played with a sig so I don't really know what I'm missing. This will be my last purchase for awhile so hopefully its a good one.

I bought a Glock about 8 months ago that had some issues. Ejecting at my face over both shoulders just a mess. Changed the recoil spring and ejector. Solved all my issues. I can limp wrist the gun to the point it's ready to come out ta my hand and I have no issues. Go for the Glock. Issues have been fixed and their nice guns. I personally love the Glock trigger but love my m&p slightly more.

I bought new G17 Gen 4 half year ago and have no issues whatsoever. I think it is safe to say that gen 4 which is in stock now will not have issues of earlier version.

put my glock through 1 entire season of ipsc and idpa without initial cleaning/lubing as the factory grease is supposed to be part of the break-in procedure. It ran 100%. It is now into its 3rd season with regular maintenance, and is close to 5k rounds without any issue or parts replacement.

My model had the updated recoil springs and extractor pin right out of the box, that were supposed to be the fixes for any issues. I hear glock stood behind their product and issued free replacement parts during that time. Apparently the tolerances were too high in the initial release, so they had to send out weaker springs and such to allow for limp-wristing.

I bought Gen 4 in January of 2013 and have over 2 thousand rounds through it (I really need to shoot it more). I haven't had a single problem. Having handled other generations, I wouldn't buy anything but a Gen 4.

I purhased mine shortly after they resolved the two spring issues. I've put several thousand rounds through it at least. The only issue I had was from some reloads I bought from a friend that were dangerously under powered. A bullet stuck 1/4 inch further down the barrel from a kaboom dangerous. Obviously no fault of the pistol. From factory ammo and my own hand loads it has shot flawlessly. For maintenance I usually clean it every few hundred rounds or so. My first 3 gun season with it I never cleaned or oiled it once apart from pulling through the barrel occasionally (paranoid about premature wear on the bore). My aim was to see if it would have any issues, which it did not.

The latter run of gen 3's as well as the gen 4's had the erratic ejection problems, from the info I've gathered. It's hit and miss at best getting a glock with good ejection up to today(check out glock talk). I've also read after the recoil spring "upgrade" your on your own with glocks customer service. None of this info is personel, just what I read on the forums.

P.S. This is what your missing...
