found it over at the Snipershide forum under the discussion for the Blaser rifle. Lots of guys were saying it had catastrophic failures and they ever had a pic of a guys face that was demolished from a failure

From what I understood they were testing barrel failures with blockages in the barrel

I guess it would make a person wonder how come on Mythbusters they couldn't split a barrel on several new rifles by plugging the muzzle. I'm not talking about the finger in the barrel episode, but that one was interesting as well. Makes me wish I had a job where I got to wreck stuff in the name of science.

For all we know the test might not have been conducted comparing apples to apples.

The videos are showing different models of rifles being fired with barrel blockage. Some models blow apart, others don't. Check your pop up settings. That may be why they aren't playing. It also may be you have to give more time for the video to load.

So what this is telling me is if you have a fancy european rifle, you can drink while you handload. American rifle... probably not.

I would be more interested in examining the actions after that torture test than worrying about the split barrels. How well did the action vent the gases, and what sort of shape is the receiver in after the fact? Any barrel can split from high pressures, some individual barrels are simply stronger than others. I'll bet not one of those barrels was worth squat after that test. Also betting that some of the receivers are toast as well. Regards, Eagleye.

They weren't worth squat for sure: if you look closely, most (if not all) of the rifles that survived this torture test developed a small but noticeable bulge about a third of the way along the barrel (from the receiver) after the discharge.

It is really a test on how strong the barrel is... how much pressure the barrel will take... and I have no doubt the European barrels are made stronger... they have to proof test over there... North America does not have to proof test...

The action strength and how it handles escaping gas was not done in this test...
