Is there a 5 inch (to remain restricted) barreled .44 mag available to us Canucks? I seem to only see 6 inch and longer in the shops, or else the 4 inch S&W Ulttralight (they require an order of 200 or more to build a 5 inch version).

I prefer the shorter barrel to save weight, as it will likely be a "carry-arm" in the great white north, as a back up to my modded 45-70. With an ATC of course. :)

Buy a revolver of your choice with a long barrel, have it chopped by a gunsmith to the specs you want and a front sight mounted.

Then you will get everything you want in one package. Worked for me on a few occasions.

Just a thought.

Thanks. I was told by a few people that cutting a revolver down was a failry difficult operation, but I think that might be the way I go. Thank again.

"...to effectively club Mr. Griz..." As Yogi guts you and feeds on your innards?
"...a fairly difficult operation..." Depends on the skill of the smithy and the configuration of the barrel. Buying one of the existing 5" barreled revolvers would be less fuss. The trick is finding one. Then you get to deal with the increased muzzle blast. Mind you, if you can't deal with whatever is bothering you with a .45-70, a revolver isn't going to help.

Why bother? Just get a 5" 629 like Nine suggested. It's quite possibly the best double action .44mag revolver on the market, regardless of barrel length.

cut her back

Best thing I ever did love Bisley grips but everything is to long, bought a Bisley Hunter and had it brought back to 5 3/4 heavy barell and cylinder help keep the flip down with a 240 grain cast.:canadaFlag: Keeping it real on the 59th.

Is that about even with the ejector rod housing?
Pictures?:)

I don't have a 5" .44Mag, but I do have a 5" M.25 & 5" M.625 both in .45Colt.

Very nice guns. They claim that the 5" N-frame is THE perfect balance.

Depends on the barrel contour. In the standard barrel I agree (I have versions with 3", 3.5", 4", 5" and 6.5"), in the heavy barrel I prefer a 4" (all the same barrel lengths in this, as well, plus 2.5"). Note that 4" N frame S&W barrels are rarely actually 4" long, so measure them up. There are some out there that make the 105mm limit, due to manufacturing variances. I also agree that the 4 5/8" Ruger SBH is a great packing revolver, and far stronger then any 44 mag needs to be. If you don't like the grip shape, converting to the Bisley form is a relatively simple task. - dan
