Made a trip to the range last night. I have been working up a load for my 280 with IMR4350 and 140g accubonds. The last load I shot was 56grains, one grain under max in one of my books, cant remember which. My chrony made it average on 5 shots of 3125fps. It was getting dark, cloudy so I wasnt using the shades. Could this possibly be correct? The primers were showing some flattening and cratering so I will probably back off a bit, but still, that is 7mm Mag country!
 
Looking at the Hornady manual, they show a max load of 53.7gr of IMR 4350 for a 139gr bullet @ 3000fps in 280 Rem. The Lee manual shows 53.5gr max load @ 2975fps. I'd say it sounds like your Chrony is reading it right.
 
One argument I have always had with the published 280 data is that the allowable pressure is lower than the 270, due to some old autoloaders from the 50's. Since I have a modern bolt action, I load to the same pressure as the 270.
 
I have heard that before, but always wondered about it, because those same autoloaders, Rem 740 and 742, were chambered in 270.

BTW, I whacked a huge bull moose with almost the identical load you have posted for your 280. Never saw a moose go down any quicker, and I have seen a bunch of them shot. :)

3100 sounds about right with the 140 in a 280, but that's not quite 7mm Rem Mag territory. I have yet to own a 7mm Mag that would not make 3300+ with the 140 anything, and rightly so, since the powder capacity of the mag is considerably more than is that of the 280. Eagleye.
