I have the last week off for deer and was thinking of trying this stuff.
Any experinces would be great. Anything better than tink's?

Yes :D , old socks. Get to know where deer are getting cut up. Cut the tarsal glands off, and even take the time to cut that sack out of the hooves, a waxy scent gland, forget the name, inter digital I think. Those work great. Use the tarsals around your stand/blind , hung up, and the wax on your boots. Oh, and this works, I have had bucks come in running
Or you could spend your money, 200,000,000 dollar a year selling piss to hunters gotta love it.:)

We get a t.v. program called , Michigan Outdoors , hosted by Fred Troast . They hired biologists from the Michigan DNR and Michigan University to study deer lures and specifically Tinks 69 to see if they work . No they don't . Tinks sued Michigan Outdoors and lost . When a doe is in estrus they secreet a pheramone in thier urine that will attract bucks but the pheramone dissipates within hours , can't be bottled or synthasized . Without the pheramone , it's just piss .

Try apple scent

I've tried food scents like apple and have had deer come in. As for other products I don't know if they work much or are just a scam. As for cover scent I've had great luck with skunk scent. If you can take it. For some reason feeding deer just ignored me even if the wind was blowing right at them. I actually reached out and touched a muley does leg as she walked past me as I hid under a bush. She jumped straight up ran out about 40 yds in the field and stomped back and forth. She took off when I stood up. Had a good laugh:D

Yup

Trost lost the suit. I remember him whinning about it on a few shows after the trial. I think he had to change the name of the show to " poor as dirt sportsman"

Then a year latter Michigan Outdoors started bragging up how well the sents worked. Total 180 on the subject and pure bulls**t.

Trosts program was called Michigan Outdoors before the lawsuit. Then it became the Practical Sportsman.Another program is called Michigan Out Of Doors but it is run by different people.

Tried that Tinks 69 once...let it sit in the barrel for over an hour.....then cleaned the barrel with a patch....smelt like hell and there was still lead fouling in the barrel, I'll stick with Hoppes.

My opinion on all these lures and scentlock is that they probably work and that they must be great for bow hunters. I have personally never used any as I don't like hunting from a blind or treestand. I have had more sucess than my hunting buddies had this fall and we hunt the same property (granted I am lucky enough right now to have had more oppertunities to go out) but It's not that hard to sneak up on whitetail even on the prairie. Just try to keep the sun at your back and always have the wind in your face and move very slow crawling works great too. But to each his own if you hunt from a blind and that works for you then I'd say try scentlock and tinks and all the other products, but if you haven't yet try foot slogging it once and you won't need any of those products.
Have fun out hunting and good luck

THIS IS THE GOD'S HONEST TRUTH!!! Well said atr!!!

Two years ago, near the end of the season in N.B., I rattled, grunted and doe bleated OCCASIONALLY through my afternoon hunt... I brought two doe whitetails in to the "ruckas"... The second doe was OBVIOUSLY in heat, she squatted and pissed all over her rear legs/tarsal gland area... WITHIN 10 minutes of that doe pissing, a buck came RUNNING in to the spot. (from downwind out of a overgrown field) I shot him when he was in the process of tearing the hell out of the place... Trying to impress the lady friend...

SO... I believe what those biologists say!!!

Cheers
Jay

scents do work in appropriate circumstances. I have witnessed them attract too many deer to write it off as coincidences. They won't always work or work in an inappropriate set-up, any more than any other deer hunting tool will work if used inappropriately. I have switched to Knight and Hale because it is synthetic and has better shelf life. Real deer piss is perishable and will go skunky if kept too long. Synthetic stuff doesn't smell like deer piss but has the pheramones which are the key. No voodoo, just basic chemistry. Science has proven that pheramones are real and they are the key to ###ual communication (in deer, people or anything else)! That Flehming move that bucks use by curling back their lips - they have sensitive organs in their upper lip which sense the pheramones.

Those that don't like them or don't believe in them, don't use them. And using them improperly is probably a waste of time and money. But not having them in your bag of tricks is one less factor in your favour.:)
