Does Winchester make a Model 70 in 223 Rem?

I seem to remember that the new production M70 Sporter's were not being chambered for .223.
 
Damn...it does look like they don't make them anymore, Coyote has been dropped too. Smallest is 22-250 in the sporter.
I still have a 1975 factory long action in 222 rem, ridiculous action length for such a small cartridge but it is a lazer.

I have one of those actions as well. Can't recall what I picked it up for, but I must have wanted to build something odd at the time. - dan
 
All the new Model 70's are crf. Maybe Winchester didn't want to bother getting a crf to work with such a small case head? I'm not sure I've ever seen a crf model 70 in a 223 rem
 
They did make a short action push feed that was properly sized for a 223 Rem. But the short action mag box and bottom metal was still oversized for such a small cartridge.

I looked it up in the blue book. The crf model 70 223 Rem's were made in the classic stainless and classic featherweight in 1994 only.
 
I was reading that the Pre-64 CRF Winchesters were available in 22 hornet. So they should have been able to get 223 Rem to feed properly in a modern CRF.
 
Closest I could find was the FN TSR in 223, was a purpose built CRPF action and quite nice. Sadly discontinued as well but can still be found floating around.
 
Ruger makes all of theirs CRF and if you could find one of the CRF Model 70 223 actions I’m sure the right smith could make it function as it should.

Had one of those in laminated was pretty good for being a Winchester the trigger was nice.

There must be a story there.

That said, I haven't had a problem with either the old or new style M-70 triggers, although I did convert the old style to a single spring from Mcarbo. If I did have a problem with a M-70 trigger, I'd probably go the Timney route.
 
Yeah 223 and 204 are basically my favourite small cartridges. I saw the Fiocchi ammo online it looks like good ammo something I’d like to try
