I see some people in the EE asking for specific years of norincos. What are the differences? anything to look out for when buying used?

I am by no means an authority on anything, but I have read that Norinco's 1911 have improved over the years. And lots of people have mentioned that the finish of the rifles and pistols has improved. Apparently some of the older models were just painted as opposed to anodized and blued etc.

The 2009 Polytechs are as good as any others ....mine was in better overall condition than the (2) 2009 Norincos I had at the time.
Check the stickies for comman faults with this style of rifle. If you plan on having a scope on it dont worry about the first two points below.

Year of manufacture is the first 4 numbers of the serial #.

1. Front sights not on straight due to barrel indexing issue or the front sight base milled at an angle

2. Rear sight pinions on alot of these will strip (get a set off a Garand)

3. Gas lock not getting tight at the 6:00 position ( requires a shim or turn the gas lock around and reinstall)

Get one and attend a clinic that Hungry or 45ACP put on...great learning experiance and you will get to go over the rifle really well.

If you want to upgrade a Norinco M14 with an LRB or USGI bolt either of the two may not fit in a 2011 model. Itired that with my full length 2011 and had to send my bolt back.

Some bolts need to be lapped in to the receiver/barrel combo. They aren't necessarily drop-in parts.

Hi,
I noticed all the problems chalk river mentioned in his post. I attended one of Hungry's clinics and all of these isues were corrected. I added a USGI flash supressor and an new rear Springifeld sight- both of which I got on the EE and we swapped gas cylynder locks until everyone has one that fit- I think only a couple of people needed shims The most difficult thing about these upgrades was watching another guy at the clinic knock off my flash supressor with a hammer and a Giant Chisel.

The clinic was by far the best money I've spend- If you shoot a M14 your really have to attend.

The bolt lugs seem to be fine with there being even wear on both lugs. The part of the receiver on my rifle where the right lug locks into the receiver looks like it has peened over a small amount.
