I picked up an 858 today and 60rds of s&b soft point(brass case re loadable). Anyway put 15fmj though it and it fed and functioned fine. Try out some of the soft points and it hung up on the 3rd shot. Just wondering if this is the norm? Tomorrow I will run a few hundred fmj's and try the soft points again. They don't seem to feed by hand without the bolt being let go, but both my chicom and rusian sks seen to cycle them by hand fine. Liking the trigger on the 858 over the sks's but the milling is more rough than I would like. Hope its not a fmj only gun.

Is there a brand of soft point 858's feed well, or better than others? I have a few boxes of Hornady I haven't tried yet. I hope it works okay.

When i first picked up my cz 858 tac-2, i bought 60 rounds of SP 124 gr MFS Steel cased and had no issues with that, have been feeding it surplus since then. Is it just one magazine causing the issue?

I had some old PMC softpoint ammo that worked fine in my 858.
They weren't in it's original box so I don't know the grs.

why would you not follow instructions that come with the rifle stating to not ride the carrier forward but to pull it back and let it go.

Thanks for the helpful post but it's doing a fine job of jamming both ways. I am just trying to see where it's hanging up by feeding it by hand.... sheesh.

Anyway I am going to post up some pictures if someone that has one that feed's brass case ammo could take a look at there's and see if there is any differences. Or it would be real awesome if you took the same pictures.

Later all!

not uncommon to have FTF with brass casings ammo in cz858.

simple fix is to check the casing and where its getting hung up , then lightly polish that area , its usually one corner of the locking shoulder and from your second pic it looks pretty sharp edges.

I kind of suspected so. Just used to my sks' that feed allot smoother, you could ride the bolts all day long on the ones I have anyway and never have issues. Blasted through a couple hundred rds today of surpluss with no issues.

Curtton, what do you use to polish the area the cartridge is getting hung on? I had about two dozen FTFs yesterday for the first time. New surplus ammo though...

My CZ and VZ feed anything that I run through it. My 858 chewed through about 100 rounds of Wolf 154 grain soft point last week with nary a hickup.

i never had any issue with surplus ammo, only with brass casing.

i used fine sandpaper, just polish the sharp edges , i also polish the ramp too .
