Once I get my VZ58 back from warranty repair I'd like to start reloading.

I'm only interested in reloading premium bullets, Hornady SST and Barnes Tac-X. These will be for hunting and survival should the need arise. I don't want to debate the merits of reloading 7.62x39.

I know people complain that the SKS and AK-47 are hard on brass.

My question is does your VZ58 damage brass cases?

If the 58/858 chews up brass I'll pass on even trying to reload.

If any of you do reload the 7.62x39 for your 58/858 how many uses are you getting from the brass?

Thanks for your feedback.

I don't relaod for my 858. I have not noticed that it bashes the surplus cases.

BUT, I did once have a Ruger Mini 30 that I sued for hunting. I made hunting ammo by pulling the ball bullets and seating soft points. Brass was no longer an issue.

Mine does not damage brass cases. I have loaded a few rounds but am unable to get the correct size bullets for the bore, and until I can I will not be reloading any more.

I have never looked at the surplus cases from my vz58 carbine, but I have never seen a semi that doesn't beat up the brass at least a bit. It is generally no problem, small dents and case mouth damage get ironed out when resizing. I have always got at least 4-5 loads out of brass for my semi's and don't consider that to be too bad.

Hornady makes a number of .310" bullets for the 7.62x39, have you looked for any of those?

My 5.56 dents brass. Turns out that the extractor "flings" the casings back so hard they are impacting the bolt carrier. With that said I had an extractor failure so I rebuilt the extractor with new parts from Marstar and the denting seems to have been solved. Using Norinco suplus ammo for the time being.
