This is the first year that I have been hunting with my savage axis in 3006. I was experiencing some mag feed issues where the round being loaded into the chamber would bind around the case neck and jam up. I made sure that the mag was fully inserted into the stock as that can be an issue with these guns but still I was getting the same jamming problem. It was frustrating because I love everything else about this gun.
Anyway onto the stupid easy fix! My problem was that on the bolt just behind the face is another ring that rotates, this ring has ears or flanges for lack of a better term on each side one is thicker than the other. The narrow ear must be facing down towards the mag or the round will not feed properly.
Here is a pic I found online and edited in Paint to show the bolt ring that must be oriented correctly
