Anyone using any GPS tracking devices for the hunting dogs that doesn't require a monthly plan or the use of data? It seems like the majority out there require some sort of monthly subscription and those that don't only have a range of a couple hundred feet.

Really, I only need a range of a few km's and monthly subscriptions are off the table as this will only be used for 2 months per year.

I think Garmin has some GPS dog collars that don't need data but can transmit a position signal back to you with FRS/GMRS(?)

I ran into a group of guys hunting rabbits with a bunch of Beagles this fall when I was out deer hunting.

Garmin has a system that requires no subscription. Radio signal from collar to handheld gps. They operate on the MURS frequency so might not be legal in Canada.
I used them on my moose dogs and they worked well--way better than radio telemtry. Way cheaper too. 2dog system cost me about $500 several years ago.

Buddy of mine has a Garmin that no subscription required that he uses on his fox hound. As for frequency I don't know anything about that. Just that he got it from the states and has 1 collar and the handheld gps. Think it cost him around $600.
