Hey guys,

Just puttin the feelers out for a good dog vest for waterfowl hunting season. Can anyone recommend a good brand? What qualities do you look for in a good vest, or what qualities do you want in a vest? I mean, I don't want to sacrifice quality for cost - but what do most people spend on one of these things? Do you us the ones with the floaters or do you avoid them? Any ideas or advice is much appreciated.

Cheers,

I think it's important to get one that can be easily modified. I bought an upland vest for one of my shorthairs and his armpits were raw by the end of the day. It has to be completely free in that area.

My Drahthaar Nos wears the Avery 5mm Neoprene camo vest with the additional floatation sewn into the sides. They are an important piece of kit later in the season, preventing hypothermia.

IIRC they are about $40 or $50.

Cabelas neoprene vests are great. You can trim them to get a custom fit. As previously posted, make sure it fits properly in the chest and isn't rubbing on their armpits. They'll be raw and bleeding by the end of the day.

Right on.
Would you like to have more options for dog vests?
Like different camo patterns?
Or made for purpose specific dutys?
maybe customizable options for carrying loads and gear?
