Anyone ever seen these videos?
Velocity Films; Prairie Dog Be Gone!
They stirred up quite a heated debate on sksboards.com, I wondered if everyone would say the same thing around here on CGN.

Personally, I think it's kinda gross  I have absolutely no problem with blasting groundhogs, they're just big rats as far as I'm concerned (same with squirrels, damn I wish I could blast the one that sits outside my window and chatters endlessly at 5:00am!!!), but I'd never make a video out of it. I'm not offended or anything, and I can still appreciate the wicked shots those guys are making, I just think it's gross to take pleasure in the blood & guts aspect of it. Anyone else?

Which rifle is the one that's exploding them? In a couple shots they just get hit and fall over, and because of the camera focus you can tell it's at fairly close range so I figure those ones are the .17HMR, but almost all the long range shots just shred those gophers and send the chunks flying!! That, combined with the vapor trail, makes me think it's the .22-250, but will .223 do that to a gopher at 300 to 500 yards?

I still think it's kinda sick. I'd probably enjoy it more if I was the one doing the shooting, I admit, but it's still sick.

Though I have not seen any of it yet or if it ia actually for sale, there was a trailer a while back, that implied Dogbegone II has some 50 bmg action in it.

Yes it's sort of sick, one of my inlaws had a cow when I showed the clips to his kids (15+), he also could not fathom the day we went through 4000+ rounds of 22. Mind you dying from poison is not nearly as gross but IMHO it's far sicker.

I showed my wife the videos -> she failed to see the humor. (as I chuckled once again - ahhh critters, gotta love em) :D

they use a .17hmr, .223, and .22-250.

I have heard word there is a second film in the works. I'll buy it when it comes out :D

Yeah, I have a copy too =)

You can hear the difference in the guns. The HMR a muted click, the 223 a loud crack, and the 22-250 a louder crack/thud sound. Both the 223 and 22-250 turn the gophers inside out equally well, and the HMR generally just flops them over with little drama.
