Dogs in need of a home ....updated march16/2016

Bella, this lovely two year old GSP Lab mix, is looking for another foster home, or (even better) a forever home!

She came to us completely untrained and is making great strides! She is so snuggly, playful, and loves her squeaky and tug toys! She plays great in backyard and loves to be chased!

She is an excellent sniffer. We hide pieces of hotdog all over the house and she sniffs them out like a... champion. We also love to play hide and seek with her favourite squeak toy inside the house.

She is great in the house with her people, but barks at strangers and other dogs. We are at the very beginning of muzzle training her to help aid the introduction to others without fear that she will snap at them. Bella is curious to meet new people and dogs, but once they are too close she panics.

She walks fine on the leash when alone with her loved ones or a good distance from triggers (we are getting closer and closer everyday!) In an area where there are only a few intermittent dogs (a backyard or quiet trail), she loves being off-leash and always stays close, checking back with us.

Unfortunately, her fear and anxiety cause her to be somewhat inconsistent and unpredictable. Our neighbourhood is very active with children outside with the beautiful weather lately, and therefore this unpredictability is too much.

We would love nothing more than to keep her until her forever home is found, but we are renters in a neighbourhood with many kids and must be aware that she may no longer be able to thrive here. frown emoticon

If you know anyone familiar with dogs who is looking for a dog who is a bit of a project, but amazingly loveable and worth everything you put into her, please let us know!

Conversely, if you know a great patient person without children or other pets who would love to be a part of Bella's story and foster her until her forever home is found, please also let us know!

How cute is this photo of Chuck and his foster mom?!

Chuck is a large 70 pound, neutered male blue tick hound. Obedient and playful. He was a stray, he walks well with a front clipping harness. He is about 3 yr. old. He would probably chase cats so needs a fenced yard and someone who has the time to train, exercise, and play with him. Hounds are very loving, family dogs. He is large and could knock a toddler over so we suggest older children only. dogwoodrescuesociety@gmail.com

Meet Sanjay (brown) and Sasha (black and Tan) a bonded pair of dobermans. Sanjay is six years old and Sasha is 7. They are good with kids, cats and other dogs. They are very overweight and will need a home who can help them get fit! They love each other very much and must be adopted together. They are really loving, sweet dogs. Intelligent, loving, energetic 2 year old needs a new home. Parents are top cattle dogs. Needs training if for using with cattle. Unable to work with her, and she needs someone who can spend time with her.

the more I get to know the various cattle dog breeds , the more I realise how much they make awesome pets and companions .
they can be taught to hunt and retrieve , they are extremely smart and very willing to please their humans .
