Doing my IDPA intro course. I think my gun is legal?

I've signed up for a 3 hour intro to IDPA course with Dan Smith at Target Sports for Wednesday. So looking forward to this (targets are getting ho hum).

I'm shooting a S&W M&P9. It's stock except i've installed the Hi-Viz foresight. Using the holster and mag pouch (Bladetech) that came in the range kit. So I'm pretty sure it's good to go.

I also have the M&P22, which fits the holster though the mags are a bit loose in the pouch. I figure it will be good (ie. cheap) to practise with.

Now, I just need to know what "concealment clothing" means. I'm still waiting for the course materials to be emailed.

Any comments?
 
You can wear anything that conceals the holster and mags but you want something that's easy to get out of the way in a hurry. I find that thinner shirts tend to get tangled with the mags so thicker, stiffer, heavier is better. Note that the rules prohibit attaching weights to the garment but putting something e.g. Car keys in a pocket is ok. This makes it easier to positively swing the garment out of the way when you need to.

You can take pretty much any gun you want but the gun you take will determine which division you're shooting in. The most popular division is SSP (stock service pistol) which requires a pistol that looks stock. Most external modifications will move you into a different division. 9mm is the most popular caliber btw.

Cranberry's post covers it pretty well. I would add that your concealment garment should be such that when you raise your arms to shoulder height, your holster and mag pouches are still concealed.
 
Fishing vest, cameraman vest or reporter vest are all pretty good. Target also sells 5.11 concealed carry vest that is pretty good, fairly easy and quick to sway away. It has a few large AR 15 mag pouches in the front, so much for "concealment", LOL. Well, it might be good for iPhone 7, I guess.
 
Clothing is clothing nothing special about the definition. Concealment of the holster must past the scarecrow test ie raise your arms level with your shoulder while wearing your concealment clothing, vest, shirt etc. Your garment of clothing must cover the bottom of your holster. If you you were to use an IWB holster the exposed grip area would only have to be covered. If you go vest car keys or house keys in the vest pockets helps in sweeping the vest aside to a point. To heavy and it all becomes clumsy.

In the case of a belt holster some part of the gun's grip area cannot be more than 3/4" away from your body. In your case you have nothing to worry about there. The Bladetech belt holster you have will be fine.

Do not over think any of this. Any camera/fishing vest will work as will a yellow Hawaiian shirt with printed blue flowers. You will take some ribbing from the folks in the other shooting sport but you see very few shooters in IDPA wearing spandex shirts with CZ written all over them either. LOL Just kidding guys don't get your knackers in a knot.

Just go out and enjoy yourself. Hell it isn't rocket science, your kids if you have children will get fed no matter how you shoot. The folks at Target Sports are great and you will enjoy their shoots.

ps Read over the shooting rules but again don't worry yourself. Be safe and learn them 3 seconds at a time like the rest of us do or did.
