Supposedly these pics came from the Stephenville Newfoundland archives.
Apparently, the hunter shot a moose and then realized that it had a calf that he figured would never survive on its own so he took it home and raised it. Its stayed in the barn with the horses. The gentleman used the moose like a workhorse for many years.

Super7 are these pics from Newfoundland cause there was a guy back in the early 1900's that also had a domisticated moose in northern N-B I think in Bartibog area I seen some pics quite a few years ago look very simalar to these if memory serves me right nice pics.

I saw some old pictures of domestic Moose from the Swedish Army. They had domesticated a number of Moose, and used them for pulling carts, small wheeled guns, etc.
What they found was that Moose had a natural fear of loud noises, therefore they were no good in a battle .

Those first pics are of John Connell, the 'Moose Man" of the Bartibog. He's credited with introducing moose on NFLD. That moose is probably "Tommy" who was later shot by a hunter.

talk about a perfect decoy! Those pics are really cool.

I also want a pet moose too, one that doesnt need food or water just sits above my fireplace. :D

Cool pics, but some how my favorite big game animal doesn't fit the 'domestic' scene.;)To me that is. YEARS ago when I was going to High School in Quesnel, a guy by the name of Gary Warner I believe, had a 'pet' Moose. They lived just north of Quesnel, on the road to Wells. I was told they had painted a mark on it but someone must have 'used the mark' as a point of aim.

I think it would be a little dangerous to have a moose for a pet, they are unpredictable animals (wild not domesticated for hundreds of years like horses) I saw a cow moose stomp on a snowmobile til the engine shut off and then she just calmly walked back into the bush like nothing happened. I suspect she was chased by a snowmobile at some point in her life. I would rather have one in the freezer than in my yard.
