Hi all,

I need some help identifying some old Dominion Company .303 British ammunition. Is it Military?

I have 2 boxes of it, One box of 180 grain KKSP, (king kore soft point) and a box of 150 grain PSP (pointed Soft point). Yellow Boxes say "Dominion" on them.

I've been offered 3 more boxes of it by someone, they think it might be a rare type of old military ammunition. If it is rare, I won't shoot the boxes I already have, or buy the other boxes they offered for $50. One box they offered is Target 180 grain bullets, 180 grain KKSP, and 150 grain PSP. They have slight wear, but nothing to bad.

Is it rare ammunition?

Should I shoot the Dominion .303 Cartridges??,

What is it worth??

Thanks in Advance!!

Dominion was a Canadian Company.. the Ammo is commercial.. It became CIL and later imperial... Yellow box would be commercial.. Do you really think that the military would want anything other then a plain box..

I'm saving all the old Dominion boxes and ammo I get my hands on because just like land "They aint making no more of it."
That said I just reloaded 40 old Dominion once fired 303 cases and they work just as well today as they did back in the 1960's.

If you shoot it try and keep the boxes if they are in half decent condition.
It's part of Canadian shooting history.

When i was in my prime this was the ammo you would see at the little general store, pretty good ammo, bring back memories... JP.

Okay, Thanks for the help,

I was pretty sure they weren't military because of the soft points/boxes, but I guess the history of the company is what the seller was getting at. Thanks again!

FYI, CIL used Dominion headstamp from 1911-1955. It then changed to the Imperial headstamp which was used from 1955-1976.
It can still be found reasonably cheap. I just bought 2 full boxes of pre '56 Dominion cartridges for $20 per box. Keep your eyes open!

Lots of 303 headstamp info here:

Funny the stories people cook up to try to sell something.

It's just old ammo. I was given five boxes of primed unfired Dominion brass about six years ago and just loaded it last month. Great brass and it must be about 50 years old!

That Dominion stuff was around in the general store when I was a kid in the 1960s. They even had 6.5x54 MS and 43 Mauser loads. I still have a full box of their "Whiz-Bang" .22 long rifle loads and a few Dominion 6.5x55 cartridges too.

"...later Imperial..." Imperial was just the brand name. IVI used it after CIL sold it to them. Gone altogether after IVI was sold to foreign interests.
Dominion Amunition Company is Dominion Cartridge Company. Gone in 1955.
