I really don't understand the cheering to have a Chinese company copy a (North) American company's product and undercut the price.
I bought Gerber myself. It is good steel, stays sharp, and if it has a problem I will get local support.
Why send your dollars to China? I realize that CanAm is a local and reputable dealer, but in this case they are just a proxy for Chinese knockoffs.

I wouldn't call it a copy. It borrows some elements from a number of existing products. That's what every manufacturer looks to do with their product, regardless of the country of origin.

And, for the record, you know almost all Gerber products are made in China or Taiwan, right? Only a select few pieces are made in Oregon.

Apparently you haven't bought the lower $ Gerber items in a while - they have a number of chinese contracts. I bought a Remix a few years back and after a couple years was required to make use of their lifetime warranty(wasn't quick or local.) The knife I sent them, vs the knife I got back was night and day - apparently, they used one of their "high end" chinese contracts for the initial market penetration run for these knives, then switched to a lower cost manufacturer once their product was established. I raised hell and they sent me a remix tactical at no additional cost to make things right and even overnighted it(the tactical was the quality of the original that I sent them for warranty.)

So to make a short story long, if you're not spending 3-digits or more on a Gerber, you're sending your money to China, but leaving some of it state-side in the process.
