Hi All
I will be reloading some .223 with Dominion D4198 from Canada Ammo and 55gr fmjbt bullets. They recommend IMR4198 load spec less 10% and to work loads up. 18.8 gr min and 20.4 gr max is the IMR load spec.
Has anyone loaded .223 and what loads worked for you? Any tips welcome.
Thanks for the info.

I use 20gn D4198 with those same projectiles in my Norinco AR. Saw another thread on here about it not being enough to cycle other types of semi-autos though.

Just always remember what works for me might not work for you. Plus I got my powder out of the first lot # they had and yours is likely different and you should work up what works in your gun.

Gary.

I loaded 21.5 grains with cam pro 55gr fmj. At standard length with top cannelure visible. Load was mild and barely cycled 20inch ar. Although it was mild load it was accurate and i imagine it was under 2800fps.
I thiink any load under 24 gr of this powder will be mild. I would keep it in 25gr range.
PS. This powder is no where near of imr 4198 speck. So i would disregard 10% reduction stuff, and just develop your own load as others pointed out.

What he said.

I am using d4198 in 7.62x39. With the h4198 I was 2.5 gr under max, now with the d4198 I am right at max and it just cycles my 858. When I say max, it's for hogdens load data...

Do you guys have chrony's or just basing it on "cycling the action"?
If you haven't chrony'd these loads you are listing, you have no idea of the pressure or velocity being generated...

Some ARs are over gassed compared to others. I use my ARs in CQB (30 yards max) so power does not matter. All I need is 100% cycling.

For my over gassed rifles, I like to load a powder similar to 4198. 20 gr of it runs the gun. Bullets are only 1700 fps, but they punch holes in paper.

Load 10 of each, starting at 18.0, 18.5, etc. and shoot for accuracy and group, and see what works in your rifle. There is a huge difference in AR type rifles in terms of cycling requirements.
