Received my Grizzly from Frontier the other day. Everything was nice and tight. Stripped it down, cleaned it up; Assembled, and now the barrel is loose. Have tried to screw the end cap down tight enough with no go. There is about a 2-3mm play. This is my first 870 clone design. Never had this problem with my 590. Is there a trick to fasten it down?

This will sound stupid but always start simple..take it apart and try to reassemble it again. Most likely there is something put in incorrectly.

Make sure the sling swivel is not catching on anything, mag spring retainer is properly inserted and that the cap threads on properly. The cap needs only to be snug and not really torqued down.

If the problem still persists we'll have to go to plan B.

Cheers

Been there done that. Took an advise from the more knowledgeable 870 owner here on the forum to hold the stock between the knees and tighten the nut. But I also used a dull side of a kitchen knife on the slots in the cap and it worked like a charm. Nice and tight.

BTW, Remington deer barrel fits better than dominion and does not require so much tightening to fit snug.

Yup, I know.
Interesting to hear it's more common than only on my gun.
I tried the 'kitchen knife' idea, actually I used a large wide screwdriver,
but nothing. Even when I had that cap zing'n tight there was still play.
Or at least more play than I was comfortable with or wanted.
I ended up machining a small 2-3mm wide ring that the nut would shoulder
on, but not interfier with the movement of the strap swivel.
One extra little part i have to be aware of when I remove the barrel
but everything is functionally tight now.
If you think a spacer ring is what you need, I can make another.

Thanks for the input guys. I figure there is a burr hanging things up inside the cap. Hopefully I can smooth it through. The shotgun itself is otherwise well made. I have to say I was impressed with the clean lines and finish on the bolt. Much better quality than the norc models that have come through so far. Can't wait to try her out and then build it from there.

I'm hitting the 6000 round mark on my Griz 12.5 and my gun is super tight. (Yes nearly 6000 rounds since October through just this gun.)

Only cleaned the barrel quickly for the last 1500+ rounds.

I used the dull saw side of my bayonet to tighten the end cap up and my guns SOLID.

Only thing moving freely is just the bars to the fore grip and the grip itself. I ABUSE my gun a lot.

Hope ya get as much out of your gun as I am.
