Has anyone used the Dominion Arms D800 powder from Canada Ammo? If so, what was your experience with it?

I'm looking to reload mostly 9mm.

Thanks.

I would think that coming from Canam these powders are exactly as describe. The powder you mentioned is a flake powder very similar to but NOT 800X.

As he mentions, this is an OEM powder which is used by factories for commercial loads. It will be SAFE for their purposes and likely your purposes as well as long as you take their suggested precaution to start with a suggested minimum charge reduced by 10%. I believe that is to cautious but that is IMHO.

$125/five pounds is a very good price.

I am willing to bet, from other OEM powders I use that it will be very consistent once you develop a load your shotgun/pistol likes. If you aren't willing to do some of your own homework, don't purchase this powder. If you are willing to put in some extra time you can save quite a bit of money and have a decent amount of consistent powder for a lot of reloads.

I just ordered five pounds of D800 for pistol and cast bullet rifle loading. I did it knowing that there isn't any load data, but for me that's half the fun - the other half being the price.

It could be months before I use it, but the "talk" on these powders is easy to predict as we have a good example in Higginson's now exhausted supply of WC-735: Where's the "reliable" load data? Posts by CGNers will not be trusted, etc. It will come down to only handloaders accustomed to daring to develop loads on their own who will use it.

It's been on their website less than 24 hours and guys are already asking how it performs. I would be surprised if anyone had it in their hands yet.

Hey ... I didn't know it was a brand new item. But thanks for the replies. I've never used a non-cannister powder before so wasn't really sure what it meant. I'll be buying some now.

I purchased some of this powder. Just visited the range today to do some chronying.
The Conditions:
Sunny Day -10C 71% humidity
The Gun:
CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical 40 S&W
The Chrony:
Shooting Chrony 7000020 Alpha Chronograph, Red
Old Loads:
I'm migrating from IMR 800X where I was striking Winchester Small Pistol primers on 7.3 gr IMR 800x behind CamPro 165gr copper wash to make major.
New Load Data:
Striking Dominion Small Pistol Primers on Dominion D800 LOT# L-158 Powder behind CamPro 165gr copper wash.
These charges were hand loaded on DILLON'S 'ELIMINATOR' SCALE Stock Number: 13480 (NOT a digital scale)

For a 165 grain bullet 1030 fps is 170 Power Factor (Major in Standard Division)

Conclusion:
The Dominion D800 powder does seem to be slightly hotter than the IMR 800x that they compare to thus their recommendation to drop 10% is warranted. I plan to load a little shy of 7gr. Hope this information was helpful for anyone looking to move to this powder.

Perhaps IMR 700X would be a closer comparison.

That 7.0 gr load has excellent SD and velocity looks to be not too high.

Speed appears to be very similar to Power Pistol.

This is a very useful speed for those who want to load at the higher end of the velocity range.

I use OEM (non-canister) powder for much of my loading. It works fine so long as you buy a lot of it, so that once you develop a good load you can keep using the same powder.

This is a good powder for most of the handgun calibers I load, so if I bought it, it would be at least 4 jugs. Last month I finished off a 32 pound batch of a mystery powder (I have no idea what it was) that was similar in speed to this Dominion powder.

Question to those who have tried it. How does it meter? I ask, because 800X is not good.

Haven't loaded any yet but the kitchen catcher white plastic bags inside the cardboard box don't look too great for long term storage to me. No matter............price is right...transferred it to an empty 8lb tin I happened to have laying around..........Harold

I sometimes buy powder 1000 pounds at a time. I transfer it to plastic jugs. I use milk jugs and window washer fluid jugs. They hold 8 pounds. For actual ready-use powder, I use the 2 liter juice jug.

And my wife's pissed off that I have about 150lbs total! I actually use empty cleaned out oil jugs. Mobil oil has nice big caps so it's easy to fill them. The labels usually peel off really easy and you can also color code the lids!
