Dominion Powders Now Available

Has anyone else found the 4350 to be really dirty? I tried a bit in my 6.5 yesterday, and it was pretty gross on the lower end. The cases were covered with what almost looked like black grease. It seemed like it was all over the place velocity and impact wise with a couple quick ladder tests.

The D4350 is definitely slower than the IMR. Low loads are known to be dirty. I haven't noticed anything excessive. Not like the old H870...

D4350 runs fine in 6.5 Creed. I’m getting 2725 FPS with 41.5g and 140 matchburners. Still room in the case if you wanted to get a bit more out of it. It does look dirty but didn’t seem to foul in my barrel, I’ve put 1000 down the tube, cleaned once somewhere around 500 rounds, no changes in precision. Good powder for practice ammo,

Which would be a good one for 338 lap mag. I cant find any info on these powders. Any links?

None of the listed powders. H4895 is akin to IMR4895, H4064: IMR4064, H8208BR: IMR 8208BR. They all are mid burn rate rifle powders, suitable for the 223 and 308. D700 is a fast burn rate pistol/shotgun powder. The 338 Lapua requires use of slow burn rate powders, such as Retumbo.

Sorry, I should have been more specific, I was trying the 4350 in my 6.5x55, using 139 Scenars. I only loaded up to 47 grains, which got me pretty close to 2700fps with no pressure signs. It's a modern rifle I'm shooting, with a 26" barrel, so I'm pretty sure there's room for more velocity than that. This was my first time trying ladder testing for load development too, and it was fairly windy, so maybe that explains my somewhat erratic results too. I'll load a few more to try on a nicer day.

I'm using the Dominion 4895 powder in my 30-06 loads for my M1 Garand and M1903 Springfield. Both rifles like the 150gr FMJ bullet over 47.5gr of D4895. I haven't noticed too much of a difference between the D4895 and the IMR4895 except the smell. D4895 seems to have a bit of different smell upon firing, but the results downrange don't disappoint, so I'm quite happy.

what type of chrono are you using? just wondering if your speeds are spot on everyone else seemed to say it was slower, and I don't have a chrono :(

That seems fast. I was only getting 2450 out of 41gr with a 140 Hornady. Long barrel?

223 Rem, 20" Tikka T3x
40gr Nosler BT @ 2.22" OAL
25.5grs D8208BR
W-W brass, CCI 450
~
3670 fps

has anyone tried the D8208br with heavies in 223 or 224 Valkyrie?
people here have mentioned that it's a bit faster than 8208 XBR, so I'm hesitant to pick some up for 80.5-90 grainers in the Valkyrie. CFE223 gives good velocity, but I only get good ES if I push it hard (hard on brass).

I’m running a Magneto speed, 26” barrel. My D4350 is lot#25. I don’t think it’s a fast barrel either, I was getting 2750 FPS with 41.5 H4350 and 140 RDF.

And I double checked my book I was actually getting 2715 with 42g D4350.

Of what is available now, what is appropriate for .308? Loving the D4895, but wouldn't mind something a little faster burning.

I ain't been reloading for centuries like some of the fellas on here, but if I was to pick what I'd consider the perfect powder, no matter what, for 308; I'd go 4895 preferably in H flavor. I have ran the D4895 through my 7400 though and it's some marvelous stuff, comparable to H4895, accuracy is tops.

+1!

D4895 (and IMR/H 4895) are all and ideal burn rate for 308. I wouldn’t go with any faster a burn rate unless it was for cast. Even then D4895 can be loaded down no problem.

well, I was worried it was a POS caldwell chrono.....so can't complain if it's over a magneto!

I just did some groups and was getting decent ones (just over an inch, 5 shot group) in my tikka t3x 6.5 creedmoor with 42g of d4350....and I am by no means a great shot

I have the D4895, but it's not available right now.

Nice, I was able to get the groups down to sub 3/4” pretty consistently. Although the ES was really high. Like 40 or higher, but I was using then for short range practice so I didn’t try to improve the ES.
