A while back there was a couple of threads talking about the Dominion primers that Canada Ammo is selling and I was wondering now that it has been a while what are your thoughts are on them.
I have used Winchester, Federal and CCI with CCI being the brand that I prefer the most. How do the Dominion primers compare to CCI and the other brands.

I've gone through about 1000 of them since I posted about them. I've had no issues and would buy them again without question. The only issue is light hammer guns, but usually it's just a second hit to make them fire.

I am in the same boat as Spawn Inc, I have gone through approx 1000 in a couple of different handgun loads and have had no issues. I would compare the cup hardness similar to a Winchester primer, and for the price I would buy them again and again.

I just started using the small rifle ones in my 30m1 Blackhawk. No issues and the fireballs were awesome.

I just ordered 5000 each of spp lpp. At under 3 cents a primer, if they make the gun go bang when I want it to, then I'll have a new favorite brand.

I bought Dominion primers in small and large rifle, small and large pistol. I have shot some of each, but mostly large rifle and pistol and not a lot of the small rifle and small pistol. They all went bang. No issues that I can see.

I have used the LPP in my 45 and they worked like a charm. Someone did a post with slow mo photos of various types of primers and the only issue with the Dominion primers was that they did not seem to be as "hot" as some brands (CCI appeared to be the hottest while Federals were a little less hot than the Dominions). Unless you're using heavy charges of slow burning powders which may be harder to light up the Dominion primers will suit your purpose just fine.

Thanks for the update on how the Dominion primers are working for you.
It looks like I will be getting low on the small and large pistol primers by the end of this month or early next month so it looks like the Dominion primers will be the ones that I order.

As Mark-II mentioned, the price is also very attractive. If you order 5000 or more they are $28/1000. If you can get together an order over $200 Canada Ammo ships for free and coming from BC to ON only GST (5% applies). I did a group buy (25000 mixed LPP and SPP) with some friends and all in they worked out to $29.40/1000. That's $10/1000 less than people are paying for most other brands, a pretty good savings.

I have had almost 100 out of a 1000 that did not ignite! tried multiple guns and even tried a bunch of them twice and no go...

i wish they worked as the price is right and they are available.... i may try again but for now I am a little peeved...

not that bad batches don't happen, but what gun were you using them in, any mods?

m&p pro stock gun, std. m&p stock gun, cz spo1 13lb hammer spring and extended firing pin, like i said we even tried hitting
them twice and they would not go, i will be doing some more testing this weekend and will post a update...

I have went through a few thousand so far in Large Rifle

Only problem I have had is they will seat very deep if u let them compared to others I have tested but beyond that they always go bang

Are the primers fully seated? I ran into a problem with Winchester primers not igniting reliably. Turns out the priming punch on my progressive press was not pushing them in far enough to bottom out on the primer pockets. I adjusted the punch to seat them deeper and the problem disappeared.

Thanks for the update on these primers, I think I might wait a bit longer to see if this becomes a common problem or not before placing any order for them.

They are for sure 100% seated properly, maybe even a little deep now that you mention it, i suppose its possible they maybe narrower than others. i know what your saying about proud primers as i had a issue with S&B because they are so square and really need to be jammed in when seating them now that i am loading on a 1050 this pretty much solves that issue now :)

i have had failure's when i seated primers to deep in my 500 mag, i suspect from the anvil pushing through the priming compound into the cup.

I find they are hard like military primers. As long as the rifle/pistol they are being used in has enough force to apply, they go bang every time.

I have a 223rem with a lighter firing pin strike. It ignites the BR2 small rifle primers no problem but can be hit or miss on the Dominion and Chinese bulk ammo.

I haven't had any issues with the large rifle primers and I've used several hundred of them.

I just wanted to provide an update for you guys.

I had mentioned in another thread that I had purchased 20K small pistol. I had done a test run of 200 and had 2 light strikes. In my SP-01 and my G34.

To try and remedy this, these are the steps that I took
So what I did was I first de-primed all my brass then stainless steel tumbled to ensure everything was spotless
Loaded on my 1050 with swage rod in
I set the primer seat depth + 1/8th of a turn deeper to ensure it was seated against bottom of primer pocket.

Average sample of 5 is the primer is seated .0025" below flush with the head of the case

Then this happened
2014-04-29%2010.21.15.jpg

If you cannot see in the photo of the 27 I shot, I had 12 light strikes.

I have ordered extended firing pins for both guns, and will back the primer depth out minus 1/4 Turn to help with this and will post update on both how the extended firing pins function with this lot, and the function after raising the primer seating depth.

I am interested in any theories that people have. Also if there is a specific measurement that the primer should be below flush?
