Donald Trump's sons face criticism for African hunting photos

Donald Trump's sons, Donald Trump Jr. and Eric, are facing harsh criticism after photos from an African safari they went on last year surfaced. The photos showed the two posing with various animals they had hunted and killed, including an elephant.

"If the young Trumps are looking for a thrill, perhaps they should consider skydiving, bungee jumping, or even following their anti-hunting father's footsteps and taking down competing businesses - not wild animals," animal rights group PETA said in a statement to E! News.

So, what did Trump's sons have to say for themselves?

"We have the utmost respect for nature and have always hunted in accordance with local laws and regulations. In addition, all meat was donated to local villagers who were incredibly grateful. We love traveling and being in the woods - at the end of the day, we are outdoorsmen at heart," they said in a joint statement to E!.

The brothers went to Zimbabwe last year, and according to TMZ, they shot a variety of animals including, a crocodile, kudu, civet vat and water buck.

One of the photos that surfaced shows Donald Trump Jr. holding the tail of an elephant and a knife as he stands next to the carcass of an elephant that has a rifle leaning against it.

"Like all animals, elephants, buffalo, and crocodiles deserve better than to be killed and hacked apart for two young millionaires' grisly photo opportunity. If the Trumps want to help villagers, they have plenty of resources at their disposal," PETA continued in its statement to E!.

Donald Trump Jr. took to Twitter to continue his argument. "btw I bet the money I spend on license fees that goes back to the animals is a lot more than the antis give for sure."

The photos from their safari have since been uploaded into a Youtube video.

Trophy hunting is legal in many African countries, but many conservationists believe the practice is responsible for diminishing populations of many threatened or endangered species.

If it was legal, and hunted by fair-chase methods, I say good on the Trump boys.

I agree with reference to fair chase above. Good for the Trump boys. Makes you like them more than their Father, huh?

Having been to, and hunted in Africa, the reality is there are nuisance elephant, Cape Buffalo and Leopard about, and hunting is an effective management tool that benefits the economy and locals.

Wanting to go back soon for another hunt, irrespective of PETA.

They are so far removed from reality that it would take them a decade to walk back.

PETA puts exactly ZERO money into conservation or animal well being. Their funding goes to administrative fees,campaining and euthanization. It's been well documented as they're a non-profit organization which has to disclose expenditures. As far as I'm concerned, they're a terrorist organization and should be dealt with as such.

I don't see the disrespect that the antis are talking about in these photos. As long as the Trumps abided by all laws, which I'm sure they did, then there is no problem here. I don't know if I would call African safari hunting "conservation", but it is a fact that PETA puts down alot of animals and contributes nothing to conservation. I know vegetarians that think PETA is crazy. Personally, I wouldn't shoot an elephant but to each his own. On a lighter note, these are some sweet pictures. Definitely something I'd like to try some day.
 
conservation and hunting go hand in hand . if the animals have no value they will be destroyed . if they have value and bring income to the locals they have a reason to maintain a population .
 
Look guys this is a serious problem PETA has lots of money. I recently took my 20 year old sister, who I do not get to see often, out for dinner and when I asked her what she has been doing for work she tells me that she is being trained by PETA. They give her 700 dollars a month to be trained as an activist. Now here is a lost young lady who is being brainwashed by these retards about how bad people like her older brothers are. PETA is dangerous to those of us that hunt.

The next day I was still reeling from my conversation with my sister and I am in the local library and it hits me. There is not a single book on hunting or firearms on the shelves. How are people who have never had exposure to firearms or hunting going to get any real info on these subjects. I think every local fish and game club should make sure that local libraries have this subject matter on hand.
 
PETA has to act crazy, or it won't get any money. It is like selling hot peppers, if you have the most soft tissue damaging peppers in the word (that nobody can actually eat) you have a licence to print money.

It is like being Hitler in 1933. If you make a reasonable speech in the Bier Kellar, nobody is interested. If you act like a nutjob, they will buy you supper.
