Hey just wanted to let yas know, im on Track with the New Zealand adventure, Got the Run-about / hunting Vehicle ... an old nissan Sunny 2wd car for $1,000 :)
Got a roof over my head in form of an old Motorcycle buddy and hes GF... appreciate it brother.
Got a job i start on Monday in form of a Construction/truck driver Job just 5 minutes down the road! fingers crossed.
Got issued a Firearms License which im just awaiting to pick up.... but its approved :) thanks police.

NOW , the Local gun store had a X mas sale on and As some will know I've been tryin to stay within budget and not blow my life savings on Crap or things i dont need, Especialy when it came to a Tool that is used for goin to the local butcher shop AKA the ol Tahr getter AKA the ol Red Stag smoker AKA Ye ol Rifle!!

Here it is in the Box, its been a while since Ive had BNIB and even though i did just Lay by it while the Sale price was on, Im stoked!

Now to just do a few weeks work and get some decent Weaver style rings to sit ontop with my Zeiss terra and i'd say im ready to rock and roll!

a Photo and a teaser pic for the hunting thread.. ;)

I was fortunate enough to pick up a Mossberg Patriot in .308 and I love it. It's slick, accurate, easy on the old bones due to the recoil pad, and it shoots like a dream with my handloads. Good choice!

Thats sweet to hear Mate!
looking forward to cycling the bolt a few hundred times an slickening the action up a bit with some oil an just wear it in so to speak!

Im wondering which set of Weaver Rings will be good, ive used the Factory ones on the Marlin X7 rifle, some will remember they stripped by previous owner, so i upgrade with some better Screws and nylock nuts....

i spose thats the cheaper option here to just upgrade the Bolt an nuts from the aluminium crap the cheap ones come with...

Someone mentioned Burris Z rings for $95 local price?

any other options that would work with the weaver base?

I am personally a big fan of the Millett "angle-lok" rings. I've heard them slammed by others and I can only assume some kind of misuse. They're steel for one thing, and you have the option of doing coarse lateral adjustment with the rings before you fine-tune your crosshairs with the scope itself. I have them on all of my rifles and they've never let me down. Sadly, they're out of business now but I still see them at gun shows. You should be fine with any good quality rings.
You didn't mention what calibre your Mossberg is, but here's a pic of my last sighting in target prior to hunting. One misprint in that the load was 46.5 Gr. of H380.

Wow, your motorcycle bud gave you a place to stay and let you use his gf, I'd say you got all your boxes checked for this trip.lol. On a serious note, Sounds like everything is coming together. Hope it is everything you expected and post some more pics when you get the chance... I want to see what motorcycle buddy's gf looks like. Kidding, I am going to stop now.lol

I've heard a lot of good things about the Patriot, but for some reason i just can't get my head to think Mossberg = quality rifle.

I've heard a lot of good about them also; and it does look very nice. May be an up and coming classic!

Hard to go wrong too with the Patriot Hunter Vortex combo too. Spoke with Clay at Prophet River yesterday about a .243 for the gf. $599 for walnut stock model with a factory mounted Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40 with deadhold bdc reticle. That’s $86 below suggested retail in the states and that price is in Canadian $$!!

That is a great buy. I've been eyeballing a patriot predator for a cheaper to shoot predator rig, and just the rifle alone is $539. They also have had good reviews. It definately isn't the quality of my winchester model 70 stainless but it's also only half the price.
OP please keep us posted as to how you like the patriot. Might help me make up my ming
