The forum lurking, reading and studying is finally done,

It took a bit of convincing to get my wife there, but this passed weekend my wife and I both did our CFSC and CRFSC courses and took the exams, unfortunately you don't get your grade on the spot (we live in Ontario but did the courses and took the tests in Quebec) so now we have to wait 2-4 weeks to find out for certain that we passed but I am quite confident about it! (The instructor told us both that while he can't officially tell us that we passed the practical or with what grade, that we shouldn't worry at all because it was very evident that we knew what we were doing and don't need to worry at all).

So the first bit of waiting begins now, I was really hoping to send off the applications right away and send the official results in when we got them (like it's done in Ontario). But in Quebec you don't walk out with any hint of evidence that you even took the course except for the manual.

So in case someone else stumbles on this in the future and is wondering what the C(R)FSC process is like in Quebec if you live in Ontario.
Timeline
CFSC Taken: June 1
CRFSC Taken: June 2

Edit 1:
CRFSC Results Received for both my wife and myself - June 6 (Both got 100 and 94)

Edit 2:
CFSC Results received for myself but not yet for my wife - June 12 (I passed but CFSC in Quebec shows no grade)

Edit 3:
CFSC Results received for my wife - June 13 (she passed as well, again it does not give the grade)

Edit 4:
Application forums filled out and signed for my wife and myself - June 13
Application mailed out registered mail - June 14

Edit 5:
Canada Post Registered mail shows both as Delivered - June 17

Edit 6:
Payment has been processed, I telephoned the RCMP and they told me that the application has been entered and that I should wait a few more weeks and to call back. - July 11

Edit 7:
Both of our applications appeared online (both old and new site) as "In Progress", when I called in they said they weren't ready to interview me yet and to call back next week. - August 14

Edit 8:
My wife called in, they did the interview with her and I called at the same time, they did my interview as well, we both gave the reference numbers and extensions to the references who called in within an hour of us. It now shows "Current Status: Your application has been processed and your licence has been issued. If you have not received your licence within 2 weeks please contact the Canadian Firearms Program Toll Free number. (1-800 731-4000)". - August 21

So I guess that's it, does that mean it's issued as it sounds or does it still need to go to the CFO?

I am from montreal, I sent my Pal application without having undertaken any course yet, and that was based on RCMP agent, they send send the application and then fax the exam result when you have it.... You can verify this by calling firearm agency...

Of course you get your mark on the spot. What reason were you given for not getting your results right there????

There were 30 people there for the non-restricted course, and they told us they get corrected at a later date because it would take too long to correct on the spot, he actually told us that when you get the results in the mail you do not get your grade at all if you pass, you just get a pass, if you fail you get the grade.

And for the restricted course he told us they correct them later in the week "in the office". Both instructors were clear about it at the beginning of the course. I guess that's how it's done in Quebec? The non-restricted was booked through the quebec ministry of natural resources and they pointed me to the FQTir which is responsible for restricted in Quebec.

Ok.....

Thank God I have friends in Edmonton. Got mine on a trip there. Took 3 hours, got my results, did the paperwork dance, got my RPAL in the mail a few months later.

Yeah I've heard you can get it done in no time out in AB, it's too bad I had no real reason besides that to go out west right now haha. Oh well I guess it's just a bit more waiting now.

Yeah that's how I feel about it too...

Well that was much quicker than expected for the Restricted results, just got them back in the mail already 4 days after taking the test!

Congrats and welcome to "da club"

Thanks guys! Yeah I always hear about the waits and waits, still waiting on the official results for the non-restricted, it's really weird that you don't find out for sure that you've passed in quebec until you get the result in the mail, maybe that's their way of getting you to wait until you have the official results before applying?

That's odd. Using the scoring overlays it only takes a few seconds to score each written test and the students should be able to see/question what they got wrong before doing the practical test or doing the restricted written test. The examiner should debrief you on where you lost points in the practical tests and the examiner has to score the tests to do that. Again, tallying the score for the practical takes less than a minute.

Is this practice widespread in Quebec or was it something unique to your instructors?

That's what I figured about the overlay, the test we did we certainly a standard test where we had to fill out our names and addresses on top, then 2 pages of true or false and 2 pages of A B C D multiple choice, they were colour coded blue, green, pink and I want to say yellow. And for sure they are corrected with an overlay so I was surprised that they couldn't tell us right away what we got. My best guess is that maybe it is to stop people from getting upset if they fail, begging to take it again if they fail, or to prevent corruption where people try to buy more correct answers, or maybe they really just want to keep you in suspense? But I would love to hear from other people who have done it in Quebec, and to hear if maybe it was just our instructors (we took both courses at different places so my gut says it's common practice in Quebec). Either way we heard back and got our results in the mail in 4 days from our Restricted and I got 94 on the written and 100 on the practical and my wife got 94 on the practical and 100 on the written. We are still waiting on the non-restricted.

Just another updated, got my CFSC results in today and I passed, still haven't got the non-restricted results for my wife though, hopefully the mail is just slow.

Just a quick update to the timeline, everything has arrived in Miramichi according to a Canada Post update I just received. Now for some more waiting :D I'm away for 2 weeks in July so I'm hoping it doesn't add too much delay, hopefully it helps pass the time since I won't be home to check as often.

Timeline
June 1: CFSC Taken
June 2: CRFSC Taken
June 6: CRFSC Results Received for both my wife and myself (Both got 100 and 94)
June 12: CFSC Results received for myself but not yet for my wife (I passed but CFSC in Quebec shows no grade)
June 13: CFSC Results received for my wife (she passed as well, again it does not give the grade)
June 13: Application forums filled out and signed for my wife and myself
June 14: Application mailed out registered mail
June 17: Canada Post tracking shows both as "Item successfully delivered"

Woohoo~~ Congrats!!! Now its just waiting time. Hopefully by the time you are back from your trip in July, you will received your PAL!!! If you are still in town after the 28 days waiting period, call in and see if you can do the interview right then. Tell them you are leaving for vacation and hopefully they will do the interview. If that happens, then it sure will cut down some waiting time!

Good luck!

I'm hoping that they do show up online before I go, that way like you said I can call in and hopefully do the interview, and then if my references call in while I am away (first 2 weeks of July) I may be getting it shortly after I return home, and worst case, at least 2 weeks passed while I wasn't at home so not thinking about the application :p
