but i consider the dillon 550 too easy to double charge to use it for pistol rounds and it doesn't have a case feeder or auto-index

They have a casefeeder now.
I'm the complete opposite; I like the fact you have to index the 550 manually. It is slower overall, but it demands your attention and allows stopages to be fixed quicker (imho).
I have a light shining into my station, and visually register each and every powder throw -something I would hope guys with the auto indexing loaders are doing too.

If you think you can't double charge using auto indexing presses then you will certainly double charge a load with one in time. Folks have been using 550 preses to reload pistol ammo for years. If you are the type that doesn't pay attention to what they are doing then you are right a 550 is not the press to be reloading on but then again no press is.

Take Care

Exactly Bob;
that's what I'm say'n. As long as you do your part (paying attention),
the press will do it's part.

Recently, I took the plunge and got a 650. Something I got right away that I'd suggest to anyone with a dillon press is the micrometer powder adjuster from uniquetek. What was it, fifty bucks US? Well worth it.
Oh great... like all I needed to read about was yet another little, inexpensive, cool, must have gadget. Do you work for my credit card company or something? :D

If I had the EXTRA bucks I would shell out for the 650...

For the difference in price between 650 and Lock n Load you can almost get a KISS bullet feeder....:cheers::cheers::cheers:

Lock n Load(with case feeder).....$700
KISS bullet feeder......................$700

Hands free reloading.......priceless.

p.s

Make my KOOL-aid RED.:cheers::cheers:

I've owned Lee, dillon and RCBS progressive presses.... Only the 550 and sqare deal b remain. I also have 2 Lee single stage presses to prep rifle rounds and do the calibers for witch I don't have a Dillon tool head for yet. The only thing I would add to the 550 and square B is a case feeder and the only thing I would remove from the Square B is the damn auto-indexing

I was a Lee guy for 10 years and listened to the blue drinkers for a long time. Probably loaded over 100K pistol rounds on Turret, Pro 1000 and then Jammaster... When I finally broke down and went blue, I felt like an idiot.

They were right. :redface:
