Well this morning sucked and as I am getting older I seem to be doing more and more of this every year which I honestly hate.
Another old shooting bud out of the blue last may got hit with cancer and since went from a 250 pound ape to a 95 pound something that I cannot even hardly relate to that cannot even walk any more
Breaks my f'n heart
Any how he wanted me to take all his reloading gear etc so mama won't have to deal with the BS. No way I said for free and put a grand in her hand as I was leaving and told her I would be back with more pending what it all sells for
Real eye opener for me with the hording I have been doing for the past 50 years and think it is a heads up for all to make sure we have someone identified to do this for us that knows our sport when the time comes and it will . In the meantime for me after I clean this load up to start looking hard at my own stash while I can easily
Only carried in 3 totes so far and will fill them all again probally two more times. Why do we horde this stuff like we all do with two and three or everything and we know we all do
Cheers

I have spoken with others who watched their dearly departed buddies' collections being coveted/fought over by surviving family and friends, mostly for the "free stuff" angle. One fellow decided to sell/give all his non-essentials (guns and components) to those of his choosing, avoiding the rush to "inherit".

When we are healthy we feel invincible for starters.
Secondly we hate to go into a store and pay $300 for an 8lb. jug of powder we paid $200 for 2 years ago.
I walked into a store a couple of weeks ago and didn't pick up any BR-2 primers when I heard the price was $72.00/1,000.
I still have some that cost me only $48.00 2 years ago.
I did pick up some other items that did not reflect the increase in US pricing.

I am sorry for the loss of your friend.....

I have been in the same boat. Try to think of it this way, when divided up in kits etc, your buddy's passion may create an affordable way for several new people to enjoy or enhance their experience......

I have way more guns than I need, but I enjoy each and every one of them and have created a memory with most of them.... When I pass on to the happy hunting grounds, my collection will be split between my to boys and then any grandkids down the road....

Sorry to hear about your friend. I hope the doctors don't let him suffer & supply the required pain killing meds.:(

I am getting up in years & have not been shooting handgun well due to aging eyes. I have been able to sell most of my handguns & reloading equipment/components.

I hope to continue shooting rifle & shotgun for many more years.;)

Currently purging on a large scale as well. Finishing up 8wks radiation treatments next week.

Keep strong my friend. It will be 11 years this coming march I started my battle with the beast and was the sole reason I joined this site was to clean out my guns totally. I got through most of the prohibs, handguns and rifles but started to feel better and stopped not really touching the shotguns or reloading gear too much
Now I know it is time for me to look at what is left and make another purge
Yep one in 2 million the old doc says the rare type I have and I should be dead 8 years ago. Just proves to me no man knows when our time really is so we have to keep up the fight every day as hard as it is some times
All the best

I guess I am in a little different boat. I am stock pileing my stuff so that when its time I can hand it over to my son who just got into shooting/hunting.

Daughter will get my .223, more of a piece to remember me by than anything else.

I think I beat the beast back in the early 2000's.
Dr. said he was fearful of losing me on the operating table.
They also said I would awake comfortably in the recovering room.
Liars.......they izz.
I now know what it's like to be hurt in a battle.
They turned the pain killer almost off as my heart rate was near fatal.
Funny thing is, I told them pre-surgery that my thump was on the low
side of normal.

I'm trying to purge a bunch of stuff around here but the missus is against it.
Couple CT 70's doing nothing but get in the way.

Gun show coming up in April and there will be some remorseful sells.

Good on you 3M's1 for stepping up and helping her out.

Thanks Looky. Glad to hear you are doing OK also. I am starting to wonder if we all sniffed too much powder or something for so many to be battling cancer
I don't mind helping at all since I know he would have done it for me if I had of got to that stage
Seems over the past 5 years I have been helping way too often and my old hunting / shooting buds are dropping like flys and most are just in their early 60's but for some reason this one hit the hardest since he was a picture of health his entire life and never sick
I am starting to get scared to open the papers now in the morning to see who passed
I don't need any more reloading gear or guns around that is for sure
take care

Sad to hear, hope he comes around, I am 60 and am just starting into shooting and hunting after years away from it! I planned on giving it to my boys when the time comes but reading this I think I better write it out somewhere just to be ready!!! Off work now with Issues. I am going to enjoy the sport in some way for as long as I can. We have to fight to the end. Good luck to your friend and his wife!

I was over to visit yesterday and as sick and as drugged as he is now first thing he said was he was sorry for dumping this on me but it took a big worry off him.
F'k imagine at that stage being worried about your reloading gear and a couple guns he didnot finish dealing with . I didnot know what to say

Well I am slowly getting through the reloading stuff and just about 300 bucks from breaking even on my grand so hopefully I will get a few more dollars over that to give his mama once it is all sold
Many thanks to those that have purchased items and I am sorry to those that ask how used is something since I honestly don't know but try my best to describe what I see as accurately as I can.

Do need some help on some 223 winchester brass. I have never reloaded any 223 or sold any so wondering what a fair price to sell is
All real clean once fired and tumbled and probally 1000 or so
Thanks again
Cheers

Hope everything works out for you SuperCub.
Thanks .... It is going very well. I am working reduced hours and feel pretty well over all. Next wed is my last treatment. :dancingbanana:

I just sold off one rifle and all the related loading gear and netted almost $1900. best to take time selling stuff off and not get in a big hurry.

Glad to hear it's going well. I remember taking my Dad for chemo when he was 80. It really tired him out. The treatment worked & he lived to 92. Pneumonia took him in the end. I still miss him after eight years.

The going rate for .223 brass that I have seen (once fired) is about $30 - $40 for 1000......

I have the hoarding tendency. Trying to kick the habit. Had property and a garage away from my house that turned into my Man Cave junk pile. Seemed I would keep bringing stuff to the property and nothing away. Came to the point that anytime I went to the property it was just to manage junk and not work on projects. Figured if I got hit by a bus I didn't want others to deal with it. Took me a couple summers to clean up the property and reduce my pile 95% which included near 40 vehicles I picked up for one reason or another. Ended up selling the property and try to manage best with the space I have in town. Been working out good so far....if I don't need it I don't keep it. If it's in my garage I work on it or sell it :)

Sorry about your buddy, you are helping where you can and that is appreciated.

I agree with this estimate. Hnatiuks sells 2500 cases for $100, so about 4 cents a case. $30-40 is spot on.

I unfortunately have a lot of experience with taking care of affairs after family members pass. It's disheartening to see what happens within families and the friends after someone passes. I call them vultures now, people trying to get free stuff on the backs of a loved one passing. 3macs brings up a good point, to have a good system in place in case something happens to you, so that your wishes are met and there is no squabbling amongst the families. If you have the time, give away / sell what you need to so you don't burden your executors.
