don't try this at home kids

Thanks for the great tip about the electrical tape. I fell through the creek while deer hunting this fall and filled my barrel full of snow. I set it barrel side down at home and let the snow melt out and the gave it a good cleaning. Funny how something so simple can save you such a big headache or a hand for that matter.

Great tip.

I have a hard time believing it was just snow... ??

Me too. I was watching an episode of "mythbusters" the other night. They actually WELDED a rod into a shotgun barrel to try and banana peel the firearm. The damage was no near as extreme as what you have posted.

I am a big beleiver in taping the muzzle regardless.

Hows your hearing Rick? :dancingbanana:

two years back, i picked up a savage 311a sxs shotgun, took it out partridge hunting and shot a few, threw the partridge into the back of the truck and took off, got out to hunt the next little scrub patch and went to reach for my gun, it wern't there. It was sitting on the box rail when i took off, got back and there it was sticking out of the ground barrels first. had to dig 2 inches of mud out of each before i could fire it!

My buddy did that with an 870 and peeled the end of the barrel back 4 inches or so, he was gonna throw the whole gun out, but then sold it to me for 20$. Then he was all jealous when i showed up at his place with an 870 with a 18.5inch barrel, and no, I'm not that big of an ####### so i gave it to him for his birthday.

Horray for hacksws, files, emery paper, and crazy whiskey driven fantasies at 3 in the morning

A boy in my platoon a long time ago in the British Army had that happen to him. We were on the one hundred yard range on our training depot using the SUSAT sight. There was a strange bang and a lot of commotion from our NCO's and we all stopped firing to see one of the lads with a SLR with a peeled back barrel.
