Damn it Grinch look what you,ve gotten me into.
You shouldn't assume anything in this business. I assumed that because ceriksson mentioned Forster reamers in his first post that we were all talking about Forster reamers. Later posts by Kombayotch now tells me he is not using Forster reamers which now explains our different methods.
I have a number of inside RCBS reamers in various calibers that I haven't use in 15 years and forgot about them until Kombayotch's last post. Now the light turned on. The RCBS style reamers are intended to be used while that case is inside a case reaming die, a neck sizing die or a trim die. This type of reamer is scaled to leave the neck approx. 0.002" under bullet diameter. They are intended to be used at the end of the case forming process.
Forster inside neck reamers are used only on fired cases before resizing. These reamers are scaled to leave the neck approx. 0.0025" over bullet diameter which removes the donut and any other surplus brass inside the neck. Resizing then prepares that case for loading.
Both reamer styles work very well however the Forster is much easier to use if all we are trying to do is remove donuts from fired production cartridge cases.
