I am going to buy a new scope for my 22lr. either a 6x24 or fixed 35. I don't know which is better for target shooting at 50 and 100 yards a dot or cross hair. also if a dot what size? need some opinions.

fine cross hairs 1/8 dot or smaller

Just sold my fixed 36x sightron with fine x hairs and dot. Too fine for me I prefer my hash mark moa reticles on my vortex pst and hst. I have regular cross hairs on my sightron big Sky 6-24.

personal preference, and it really boils down to what kind of target you shoot. I prefer the dot, I don't even see the fine cross hair anymore, just the 1/8" minute dot, hold it 6 o clock on the center ring, or the corner of a square box and let her fly

^^^^ Well said

Its nice to have some reference for canting and getting the scope on straight.Personal preference won't stop canted shots from hitting wide, or crooked scopes from slanted tracking. A dot user can ignore fine crosshairs while aiming but at least they are there to establish level.

how easy is it to see a 1/8th dot at 100? I was looking at sightron any other brands better.

it's as easy to see the 1/8 MOA dot at 100 as it is at 15. I used the Leupold 6.5-20x EFR with the 1/8 MOA dot for rimfire silhouette. It's the best reticle for that game by far.

I thought I'd like the dot. Then I found myself actually hunting with one. Easy choice. It's sold and replaced with a heavier duplex cross hairs

OP was talking about target shooting, not hunting. I've used the dot on gophers too. Doesn't obscure the target hardly at all. Makes longer pokes on gophers.
