So, l got a couple of old pistols. A double barrel damascus muzzle loader, and an old box lock, my questions are as follows; The damascus has channels running down the inside of the bore, like you would have on a screw off barrel to use with the wrench, but these barrels do not screw off. They never did, the shape of the barrels would prohibit any kind of screwing, so it's not a modified conversion type thing. What could these channels be for? It's not rifling...
Next the box lock. Screw off barrels in .40 cal. .40 cal ball does not exist, so... could l use a .40 cal round nose lead projectile of modern manufacture? sit it in there backward so the round nose is over the powder chamber? Any ideas? Both guns are in really good shape functionally, even if they're not especially pretty. l'd like to take them to the back 40 to shoot some tin cans.
