I was looking into getting a Double barrel shotgun for indoor range use. I was hoping for some more budget options with under a 20" barrel that still look nice, preferably something in 12 gauge. I honestly mostly want one because I think there fun to reload.

Are you thinking O/U or SxS? If O/U the Akkar Churchill 206 has a few different models under 20” for a reasonable price. If SxS, someone else will have to chime in as I have no experience with them

Budget and double barrel mean a used SxS. Intersurplus has lots of decent SxS choices that can become a coach gun with the application of a hacksaw and some elbow grease.

OP, if you search in this forum and the Hunting and Sporting Shotguns forum for 'coach' you will find numerous threads from over the years. Maybe look in Gunsmithing as well, just to cover all bases.

I don't know if they still carry them or not, but Canadian Tire and some other big box stores carry very short double barrel shotguns, both over under and sxs in 12 gauge. They look very nice and depending which model you purchase, can be had with composite or wood stocks.

They range in price from "budget" to quite expensive. Most are made in Turkey.

The units I've seen have 12 inch bbles I believe. They come with full length butt stocks.

One other thing not mentioned about cutting an existing SxS down, you can only cut the barrels to 18" (to be more precise, 457mm = 17.99"). Anything shorter makes the gun a prohib and we already have too many prohibs floating around this commie land, so best to avoid that.

I didn't see that forum before thank you!

I was in this position a couple months ago, for different reasons but same specs give or take.

I ended up between a Stoeger Coach gun and a surplus SXS coach gun.

I ended up going with the Stoeger and km
Glad I did, chokes are awesome. Having a short double barrel is sweet, being able to group and hit things at range is even sweeter.

The Akkar Churchill doubles (SxS or O/U) are very very tight out of the box and look good. The simple break actions look really good at turkish quality and price points in my opinion compared to the semis for example.

If you want external hammers check out the EGE coach guns. Cheap, seems very solid, works good and feels much better than I guessed for what the price tag was. I didn't personally like the boito or norinco and don't think they were worthwhile compared to the turkish stuff.

i got this one that i used for turkey hunting under a $1000 very nice and short, has ejector i remouved the 2 rails at the side of the barrel for turkey i did not need them.
