I built some ammo last night (308 WIN) and would like a second opinion (or ten) before I go shoot them. I've never asked a question like this because I just check my book, but these 144gr Pulled .308 bullets are not in my book.

Any way here it is;

S&B once fired brass for all of these.

41.6gr Varget, 2.850 (to fit my k98)

40.0gr H335, 2.850

40.0gr N140, 2.850

The weird thing with these tracer rounds is they are looooong, so even at that length I have 0.500" of bullet in the case. My normal load is 46gr Varget with 155's and it compressed a bit, these varget ones at 41.6 with the long bullet are also compressed a bit.

I used close to minimum loads for 150's on these 144's as per advice found here.

Mostly curious about the loads for 144gr bullets vs 150gr.

And also the fact that I have about .200" more bullet in the case that with my other loads due to the lenght of the bullet.

It'll certainly be safe, though extremely mild.

the longer bullet, if you load it to approx the same COAL in order to feed from the magazine, will intrude into the powder space. You are correct that this will increase pressure. It's not an enormous effect though, it's more than outweighed by the fact that you have dropped several grains vs. your 150 loadings.

Older tracers can be difficult to get to light. You need to load up to full power - so you might want to load up a "work up" range of loads, and go through the regular process.

You'll almost certainly run out of room in the case with Varget before you get to max loads, and probably the N140 too. H335 is your best bet here.

Tracers are quite a bit less accurate, but that's relative to good match bullets. They are accurate enough to be a whole lot of fun though. One of the first times I fired tracers, we were firing at 900y; every bullet we fired was able to hit the 4' diameter aiming black *every* time. Standing around watching was really neat - you saw the bullet rise up and away, then plunge, like a guided missile, into the tiny-looking aiming black each and every time.
 
Thanks bud, I agree with mild but thats what I was after to start with, I really hope H335 works well I could run it in my dillon that way!
