Picked up this 91/30 not too long ago. Was cleaning it and noticed that the date on the tang and the barrel don't match. 1936r stamped tang, and 1937r stamped barrel. My guess that the receiver was held over for whatever reason until the next year and mated to a 37 barrel. And guess why that would be? I don't imagine it would take very long to make a mosin from start to finish, so why would it be held? Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

Its not like making a service rifle is done one at a time. All those little parts are made in separate batches on specific machinery. Some are quicker to make than others. This was simply a case of having some leftover 1936 receivers mated to 1937 barrels. It was pretty common in early 1937 (and early in every other year) for that to be the case.
