I've just recieved a 26 mm set of quick release rings, for my Fair I-side 9.3x74 double SxS,
Have placed an order for a leupold freedom, in 1x4 x 20, plex, started second guessing myself a bit,

What are others double rifle shooters, using on their rifles, with detachable scope mounts.

Seems like the bulk of what I've seen are 1-4's, 1-5's or 1-6's of one form or another, few fixed powers, a few 2-7 or 2.5-8's.. When I ordered mine I had it built with a Recknagel swingoff qd mount and got 1" and 30mm rings for it ,and a Recknagel peep with an appropriate front post.. It has a Z6 1-6 on it at present, also just had an adaptor for a Deltapoint 2.5 reflex sight installed, not 100% sure if I like the way it was done yet, but height and QD style setups are something of a conflict in their own right. At the moment I have don't have QD on the Deltapoint and have to remove two screws to put the scope back on, and I'm suspecting I'd still like it lower yet. Hopefully, will go and prove or disprove that thought, today.
I'm thinking that Iside will be a bit of a bear in 9.3, I looked at one here in 2015 in 30R, it was light, like really light. Mine is a Krieghoff Classic in 30R, with the Classic bigbore stock instead of the hogsback.

I have a Merkel SxS in .30-06, and have played with a bunch of different scopes on it. It has the adjustable barrel regulation feature, so between that and the flat-shooting cartridge I have gotten good utility out of scopes up to 3-9x40. Once the barrels are regulated for a particular load, the gun is pretty much the equal of any typical bolt gun in terms of accuracy out to 300 yards or so. The thing is just so light and handy that it looks and feels idiotic with a big scope like that on it. A straight-tube 1-4x looks nicer and feels much more lively, but loses something when shooting at first or last light. I have pretty much settled on a compact-ish 2-7x Leupold as a compromise.

If I had the 9.3x74R that I want...rather than the .30-06 that I purchased only because it was a smoking hot deal...I would use a 1-4x scope with a 30mm tube, giving me a 24mm objective that should be slightly more useful in low light than the 20mm on the 1-inch tube.

An adjustable-barrel SxS in .9.3x74R, with a QD mount and a low-power lightweight scope...sigh...:)

Don't know about the doubles (it's on my bucket list) but I have a 1-4 vx-freedom with the pig-plex reticle on my .44mag Henry carbine and it is a very fast scope with good eye relief. Was playing around with it on the 200m silhouettes on 1x just practice snap shooting offhand - it should work just fine I think.

Typically double rifles have a low comb because they are designed to be shot with iron sights, so the challenge of mounting a scope is getting it low enough that a suitable cheek weld is maintained. For this reason straight tube scopes have the advantage over those with objective bells. That said, a scope for a double rifle should be chosen with the same criteria as a bolt gun scope, that is with consideration for the size for he target, and the range at which it is being shot. I think your 1-4X20 is a good choice. As for the rings, is your Leupod scope a 26mm tube or is it 1" (25.5mm)? The only 26mm tube scopes I've seen have been from European manufacturers, and using these rings with a 1" tube might be a problem.

Thanks guys, couple good comments, yep scope is 1", and rings 26 mm, they assure me they will work, I will soon know, part of the reason I am second guessing, and it seams that Leupold, has reduced the number of low power 1" scopes options,

My intention is too order a second set of rifle barrels, in 7x57R, or 7x65 if this winters work season, Remains busy.
This is my first double rifle, so bit of a learning experience, rifle is pretty light 6lbs, so as said, bit of a bear of the bench, with full power loads in the 74, lovely with the 20ga barrels

I do like the 1-6, price was a bit of a bear, wouldn't mind a 1-8, but, can't justify the loot on that one, if it was available when I put that gun together, I would likely have done it. I used the 1-4 on my #1, it worked well. The Deltapoint is an experiment, see how it works out, nothing wrong with the scope, except it adds weight when carrying and is pesky to carry separately, maybe the reflex sight is an improvement over the irons, maybe not. Never know unless a person tries it.
I liked the way the Iside handled when I saw it, it was a combo set as well, price was nice for what you got. I could see that being a nice handling gun in 6.5 or 7x57R.

Mounted and fitted, now, 1" scope with 26mm rings worked out fine, and 7lbs even, scoped, soon as this -40 weather clears off, I will go sight it in. like the Fair mount, clips off in a second, time will tell if it returns to zero.
Got a batch of 250 gr Accubonds, with R17 and CFE.223 to try, and sum time today, will build up 20 rounds of PP, 285gr or 270gr speer's

I can't understand that. Back in the day I had a 26mm HK original-equipment scope mount; the nice QD one with the vertical locking lever that required your head to be about an inch above the stock comb. :) Putting a standard one-inch scope in that was impossible; it could not be tightened sufficiently to hold the scope against slipping even when merely bouncing the buttpad lightly against your leg.

Have you shot it yet with this set-up?

Guess there may be variances in how they build "26mm" rings. I should think even a "paper liner", forget who supplies those, would probably suffice if necessary.
That gun looks a bit different to the combos I've seen, they all had the sideplates on them, and shotgun stocks, not the hogsback.
