Double rifles gurus????

May I ask for your opinion?
I have the opportunity to buy a Merkel O/U rifle in 7x65r with claw mounts, a foggy old ZF, and 20 boxes of RWS ammo for 3500$... Gun is used but still good to look at, it was made during the cold war (GDR marked).

What did you think about that one?

Hard to say on value without the model and pictures (your best bet is comparing it on internet gun sales sites), just remember an o/u will never come close to the value of a comparable SxS, and I personally find the o/u's increased weight, gape and increased difficulty in doing a fast reload compared to a SxS, to be serious downsides, for me, anyways.
But if it rings your bell, go for it and be happy!

try it for fit first, then try loading the bottom barrel and see how much clearance there is, sometimes the barrels don't hinge down low enough so a guy can easily slide a shell into the bottom barrel, a real issue with cases as long as a 30-06 with heavier bullets seated long. I paid close to 4g for a Merkel a few years back and loved it, but the stock didn't fit me worth a damn and I couldn't get a good cheek weld, that resulted in some poor shooting, had to sell it and get something that fit.

I'm not well versed in O/Us as I haven't shopped them, as far as doubles go they are more difficult to use but easier to regulate. They price sounds reasonable to my ear not knowing what it is, having claw mounts done is half the value of that rifle- presuming they're still tight.
